i used to work in Holmes co Ohio and remember all of these things. the first time i seen a guy sitting on a Wisconsin engine pulled by horses baling hay i bout wrecked.

the leather and harness shop had a gas engine drive a belt that powered all the sewing and riveting machines.

my farrier invited me to dinner and they cooked on a Coleman gas camp stove sitting on the wood stove. he liked to hunt and asked lots of questions about how to get to Alaska or Colorado. his problem was he could not fly, demons in the air or some such.
he also had a compressor in his barn that drove the air tools in his basement.

i went through the area last year and solar panels were everywhere.
