I often wonder why people find "thread wander" to be a problem....
If you are having a conversation with a friend or a reletive, on a Sunday afternoon, do you start the conversation about a subject and only stick to that subject or do you start talking about Aunt Bessie, move on to How good that pie was, and end up talking how dysfunctional our government is?

Just my thoughts

Where am I coming from... OCD, low level PTSD, 30 years as a QualityAssurance Engineer... everything has an order and should be in that order or thing don't work.
When I look for an answer to a question I have, I go by the Titles of the Threads, and once I get a list of threads I feel that it would be easier to just read down the thread about a particular subject, not have to hunt through a thread to find a posting that is really about the Title.
Unless a person has something to say about the Titled Subject they shouldn't post in the Thread.

Just me I know... and as you must have read, I passed it by, and went on with the same line of thought as the last few posters.
Actually it was a step in the right direction for me because sometime I don't let it drop and get on a roll and start asking why do people do this.

As far as a talk with a friend and changing subjects, yes it does happen but you expect it to !

Just my way of thinking !

Have a GREAT week or what remains of it !

The forums would probably be far less popular without the social element. But why stop at off-topic posts? People who didn't accurately read the OP, and people who didn't read all the replies, and maybe repeat what someone said or suggested, should also be BANNED. And is an off-topic remark worse that a totally misguided or wrong suggestion, on topic?

Whether the Social popularity of the Forums, helps or hinders the commercial interests of the operator, would be interesting to know.

I once suggested that there could be "DEADLY SERIOUS ONLY" Threads and all others. That would also be interesting.

Back to the title of the Post. Since a lot of the online retailers like Amazon have deluged UPS (Amazon exclusive) they send a lot of smaller stuff now through contract rates with USPS. Here those deliveries are great, hardly ever any delays more than a day. Talking o the Postmaster the other day and he said he has had to add staff to cover the Amazon stuff, he even has separate vehicles to make guaranteed 2 day delivery requirements. He has extra temps to cover the holidays.

So far, the USPS is the only one that has managed to get my packages here when they are scheduled. FedEx was supposed to deliver a package yesterday, never showed up. Today the status show delivery pending with no estimate. UPS was supposed to deliver three packages on Monday, but they didn't show. The message there states carrier issues, package is still enroute to be delivered, but delayed. No new estimate.

USPS has provided the best service here by far. The rest have been greatly lacking.

Seems Canada has its delivery problems as well.
UPS drove a package around for a full week at one time with tracking showing 'out for delivery' every day.
FedX simply ties a delivery onto my trash bin and no notification.

Canada post is our most reliable with a rural setup that serves 60 or so.
We even built our own 'shelter' to house the boxes, that way we don't stand in the rain nor does the delivery gal.
Shucks she even gives me a Xmas card!
Hey we usually decorate the mail drop at Xmas.

Yes to all above !

That is why I usually just try to throw in a dig or two and move on.
AND... IF I let myself ponder too long... my mind goes to the deep end... and all h*** breaks loose, so it is easier to either let it go or just attempt a reply along the more current line of the thread and then I move on.

I do wish that when I reply to a Thread Notification, that the system would take me to the actual Posting I was Notified about ! But another thing not to ponder !

Our local email list has been having quite a few posts/complaints about FedEx this week. Lots of lost packages, damaged packages, no packages delivered but people were told they were delivered.

We have not had a problem even though one of our last deliveries was FedEx. For years we had a UPS driver that we got to know real well but he retired. Which was good for him but not for us. :D Miss the guy and we would wave at him if we saw him in town or talk to him if we saw him in a store. He used to east at the same place for lunch each day and the wife would see him there from time to time. We also have not had any problems with the new drivers and we never have the same person now. USPS is a mix of people but we do seem to have a regular driver for both mail and packages.

The worst delivery I had was DHL many years ago. I NEEDED a part to fix the truck and paid for next day service. Which I did not get. We have had a few packages sent next day by USPS that did not get here next day. Best we can tell, those messed up deliveries were not from the local people but somewhere else. Usually it is a package my family has sent to us. They are in FLA and their USPS service sucks.

It really gets down to the workers irregardless of the USP, USPS, FedEx or DHL.

Later,
Dan

I deal with a lawnmower manufacturer that will only ship emergency equipment down parts UPS next day air, with the high ship shipping charges that go with it. The catch is they don't ship the part for 14 days. So you will receive a part next day air in 14 days.

Just got the laptop delivered by UPS that we ordered for our daughter that is her Christmas present, outside box tore up and taped. Took pictures opened box, computer box also damaged. Took pictures and removed the laptop, and it is smashed. So not only was UPS late with getting our package here, they also destroyed it. UPS has some of the worst service out there.
