Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with YNM Tractors? I believe these are the newly painted ones from Viet Nam. I know their rebranded Yanmars. I've heard differences of opinion, mostly from sellers who are competing with YNM for sales of American marketed units. Seems like alot of people have opinions, but I'm looking for info from someone who has owned one or have first hand knowledge of them. (Everything I hear is 2nd hand of someones opinion based on what they've heard)

Thanks.

What's the cost. Years ago the difference between VN recons and Fredrick's was as little as like $300 and with Fredericks you got a year warranty.

I have a VN recon. Mine I think was LCI or VN tractor. I can remember which of the two big ones it came from. I bought it off a lot and have had it for 10+ years. Only real trouble I had was cracked radiators. It came with one...the replacement they gave me was cracked, and then they finially got me a new one. Other stuff has been minor. Seals that leaked, voltage regulator. But that's it.

They vary in price, but this is the outfit I'm looking at and their prices by model:

Google: Big Little Tractor in Idaho.

I'm looking at something between the 1601D through the 2200D. I have small acreage (2-3) so I don't need anything huge. I just need something to move dirt, till, and mainatain berry orchard rows.

DO NOT buy the 2200 . It's an orphan tractor. Meaning it does not share parts with many other models. Many parts are model specific to it. It's an older model and many parts are not available.

IRQVET,

Big Little Tractor is pricey over the other Yanmar imported and refurbished machines. Since you are in WA, did you look at TractorCo.com - Thorp and North Bend, WA - Offering New & Used Tractors, Implements, and Equipment Repair ? They de-badge the Yanmar name-plates as an agreement not to infringe on Yanmar Co legal rights, but they do keep the YM-model number circle on the tractors. They paint them Mitsubishi blue too. Not sure why. The good thing is, ROPS and the additional safety hardware is there. That's a BIG PLUS, even if you should re-sell down the road. They have a much bigger inventory to choose from as well. Many of their machines are not the odd-ball models either. The Hoye website for parts talks about certain models to stay away from because parts are rare or scarce.

Also, should you come across a Yanmar with a B, A, G, D or other letter after the model number, these were not the regular rice-paddy tractors, but were made with options for Ag requirements in different cropping needs. Not much to do with the engine really, mainly where the controls were, levers, more instrument gauges and such. There is a Japan historical Ag foundation that is Japan gov sponsored. It has many of the tractors there. I read it from-time-to-time to learn what all this means. Using google or Bing translators is fun at times too.

FYI, in the database from the Yanmar Tractor Owners Group on the GroupsIO site, the YM models, the FX and F models utilized the 3T75 & 3T84 engine frequently. Not only that, but the higher ended Yanmar US models use this engine too.

AND, any YM model ending in 00 is a no thrills 2-cly engine that typically my 1995 riding mover with the V-twin engine can run circles around.

YM models ending in 10 or 20 mainly have the Shuttle Power-Shift. This gives you the ability to have a 'live' PTO in certain shift selector ranges. Thus, if you are ever mowing and need to reverse, you don't have to hit the clutch, spin down the mower to a stop, back up and then start over. Nope, the Power-Shift allows the PTO to spin in forward, uses it's own neutral and then reverse.

The letter D at the end of a model means 4WD.

If you found a YM1720D, it has the 3-cly 3T75 popular engine just like the US models, has 4WD, and OE power steering. A co-worker bought one from Fredricks. It's a gem overall. Should I ever need a smaller versatile Yanmar this would be it hands down. 20Hp engine with 17Hp out the PTO. BTW, the 3T75 engine code is this, 3= cylinders, T= Inline 75= 75mm pistons.

The Yanmar FX series is durable like the YM. The F series, depending on the model are very rare birds.

Now, with ALL THAT SAID, the nice thing about the YM models, they have green siblings. And those green parts from the John Deere 650/750/850/950/1050 fit our YM machines. :D Why? Because Yanmar made them and painted them JD green. These are the YM model JD green machines. Need tractor weights, go green. Easy to find. Need a 3pt top link or draw bar at the right length and end sizes? Go green and get it locally. Or even at your local Ag Co-op or feed store or even Canadian Tire.
Can't do that easy in a Kubota arrangement.

This is a small list of the Yanmar machines in JD green. I've not seen an updated list yet. These are YM and FX series for many of them.

I don't understand if you seek information on a specific brand or a grey market tractor vendor. The closest grey market vendor to me is probably TractorCo. They are located in WA with branches in Ellensburg and North Bend: TractorCo.com - Thorp and North Bend, WA - Offering New & Used Tractors, Implements, and Equipment Repair
TractorCo has been around for a long time. I think they are the importer from VN and the Idaho outfit is a dealer for them.

My most recent research of TractorCo last summer: The sell a little Italian backhoe and say 6 ft digging depth. The backhoe manufacturer's actual brochure is on an Australian website and lists 4.6 ft digging depth for that backhoe. Link.

A VN import can be a good buy, but we read in this forum of the rare instance that one slips through that needs a lot of work to make its performance as good as its flawless appearance. Make sure you get an ironclad warranty, and make sure the Idaho guy has shop capability to make the tractor right if it isn't to start with.

I got some of the parts I needed to restore my YM240 from a similar importer in California, that folded after they took back so many warranty-return 'rebuilts' that it doomed them. They were honest but their affiliate in VN buried them with too many defects. Again, you need a solid and credible warranty.

YMMV.

Regarding bmaverick's comment about the F and FX series. The F is gear drive, the FX is power shift.

California,

What are your thoughts on a YM1720D? Have you seen these in person? Or know of folks with them? For the range of machine IRQVET is looking for, it tends to be a nice machine overall. In an orchard with the FEL and the power steering, it would be an ideal choice. Tree pruning on the FEL lift platform and navicating around each bush/tree would be needed. Then to cover the tree/bushes, the ability to navigate in tight quarters would be agile enough.
