Who rides motorcycles?

I rode sweeper for BMW factory rides for a number of years at a local dealership, nice to get to try out all the different bikes they had to offer! Man that 1000 RR was a screamer!

I’m afraid I’d get into a lot of trouble on that bike. Just saw some pics of the new R nineT. I’d get into trouble on that one too.

Guy I know from the local Goldwing Road Riders club was trying to get me to join a few years back, and noted that, "Harley clubs ride form bar to bar, but Goldwing clubs ride form restaurant to restaurant." I never did join. Group rides are fun once in awhile, but I've always preferred just me and The Wife on a 2-lane highway somewhere without a crowd or someone else deciding when and where we stop.

The only previous bike I really miss was my '89 BMW R100RT. Great bike. Happy with a Goldwing now, though, and it'll get replaced with another Wing.

Yeah, I never did much of those "group rides" I'm kind of a ride snob and most people in those "clubs" don't know how to ride. Did the Patriot rides for a while, but again, too many did not know how to ride! I was a motorcycle instructor for years, and I always got a kick out of talking to the Harley guys (yes I ride a Harley too) and they always say they don't need to take a class cause they've been riding for years... then they put their outriggers down, and make a 27 point turn to get out of the parking lot!!!!

Me and a buddy usually ride together. We usually just ride to lunch. 200 mile tacos or 260 mile burgers :D

I also have a good group that I ride with, sometimes multi-day rides. California has no shortage of great roads.

That's for sure. I've only been to California a couple of times, when I did long bike trips out west. Gorgeous scenery and some crazy drivers (by my standards). I was riding through an area with quite a bit of logging going on, and I periodically had to pull over to let the fully loaded logging trucks go past me. They took the mountain roads faster than I was comfortable doing on my Goldwing.

I don't know if they still have this sort of thing, but I attended an event in Kentucky during the early nineties, called The Rider Rally. All the major motorcycle manufacturers were there. If you have a motorcycle endorsement on your license, you are free to take their bikes for a test ride.

Most of them took you out in groups and enforced that the riding was pretty sedate. Two exceptions were Harley and BMW. Harley just loaned you the bike to go ride on your own. They had a suggested router, but there was no obvious enforcement. BWM took us out in a group, but the group leader rode like a bat out of h***! I very briefly thought to myself, "I'm on the same bike as him, taking the same curve as him, I ought to be able to keep up with him." That lasted about two seconds before I decided otherwise.

Out of all the bikes I road that day, I was happiest to get back on my Goldwing, so I guess I made the right choice for me. :)

This is the older one, that I've ridden all over the country.

Indian Larry went down hard and fast on 8/28/2004, and passed on Aug 30. (not doing a wheelie, btw). It was a sad day to lose such an artist and bike culture personality.

I always dreamed of doing wheelies, .. and do to this day, .. but at <5mph on a bicycle and not on a motorbike.

Meanwhile, I seriously admire you guys who can do any of that under power. I just never had the balance and/or reflexes for it, although drifting and/or dirt tracking a Harley is well within my ability. :cool2:

The problem with getting older is when you realize how much shorter ice cream season gets to be.

Indian Larry was standing on the seat of his motorcycle without a helmet, fell off and bounced his head off the pavement.. not the smartest move, but it was a sad day nonetheless.

And maybe you live in the wrong place, we have a long ice cream season here!:D
