My point is there is a difference in technical ability between an IT person and a network administrator.
....

I can't say that I know what you mean by an IT person. Network administration is considered a career in IT.

From Webster's Dictionary:

Definition of information technology
: the technology involving the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data

If you're in the IT department, IMO you write the code for the software your company uses to function as a business.

A statement like this is like looking through the peephole in your door and thinking you've seen the world.

We have a late 2009 Mac and I fitted a SSD last year. It still goes well. I also use Win7 laptop. Not interested in Win 10.
Also have a iPad pro and iphones and androids. I prefer my Android Samsung S4 Tab to the ipad pro but happy to use anything.
I will replace the Mac with a new one eventually rather than a Windows machine.

Windows is an implement of self-torture. Mac is a useful tool. I switched about 10 years ago when I left the business workforce which was pretty well locked into windows. I've never been happier, or looked back. Every time I have to do something with windows, I cringe remembering how much time and energy I wasted over the years fighting with it.

If you get a mac, go spend $70 and get VMWare Fusion for it. It creates a virtual PC that runs as part of your mac. You just connect it to your old PC, and it sucks it's brains out and poof, you old PC now runs on your mac. You can them move things over at your leisure, and still run any legacy windows apps. I still have a handful that only run on windows, and I'm still running my vitrual Windows XP system from 10 years ago. I still use it for Quicken, AutoCAD, Visio, and the occasional utility program that is windows only.

When you are done, you will see how wonderful it is to have your computer work for you, rather than you work for your computer. It's your *****, not the other way around.

VMware fusion $160

But I love the description of what it does. Lol. My next laptop might be apple, since I don’t customize them.

But then I see an equivalent HW Mac laptop is more than 2x cost of same specs windows one.

That's because they are much better built and will outlast a PC 5:1

Or use 'Parrallels'. Half the price ($79.99) of VMWare and faster. Been using it for 8 years since moving to Mac laptop. Pretty much seamless operation. I have both iOS and Windows running all of the time and it is a quick swipe on the pad to switch back and forth. Same Folders/Files are accessible on either desktop.
