Ford 7.3L Gas Engine

I wondered if they didn’t have a way to hold the gear. In the video they showed the gear ratios they did the dyno pulls in and they weren’t 1 to 1.
I thought in that video they stated the new 7.3 was running the test in 6th gear locked out for that specific purpose, and that the remaining gears were all overdrive.... And I'm pretty sure they also chose a gear for the 6.2 during the test.

It seems Ford took a similar path with the new 7.3, with clean-sheet engineering based on intended usage.

I think Ford got burned by the experience with 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstrokes outsourced from International, which drove Ford to design and build the 6.7 Powerstroke themselves. The 3.5EB wasn't as stout of a design and they have been burned again, leading to the 2.7EB being designed and built like a truck engine should. I'm not a student of how the 2nd generation 3.5EB differs from the original.

Lincoln has a 2.7EB too but the first I saw of it a few years ago stated it was not the same 2.7 as used in the F-150, that Lincoln "wanted their own" which is built lighter.

We got a couple of the 2.7L in F-150 patrol trucks. They done like to be run hard. You can’t run hot across the County or be in a pursuit without all the lights in the dash going crazy, the transmission cooler puking out fluid, and being put in Limp Home mode. The 5.0L Fords didn’t give us any problems. I think we may try the 3.5L EB, next year. This year, we are trying Silverados with the 5.3L.

Sounds like you need a better dealer, or better mechanics.

What do dealer or mechanics have to do with problems before 2,000 miles? The problem is the wrong tool for the job.

If it was that bad of a tool for the job, there would be a whole lot less of them on the road.
Sounds like you guys have a lemon and it needs somebody who can work out where the factory screwed it up and get it fixed.

Sounds like a 2.7 hater, or as was mentioned, you have a bad mechanic or dealer. There are too many satisfied 2.7 owners out there to believe that what you wrote is any indication of a wide spread problem.

It sounds almost like it is set up as a police vehicle, so there's also a possibility that the upfitter who installed the lights, computers, etc messed something up.
If all 2.7L EcoBoosts were like that, runs like the one below wouldn't happen.
I guarantee that they put more load going up the Ike Gauntlet than somebody running just a truck across the county with lights and sirens on:

What year are your 5.0L trucks? I just dumped a 2018 that was getting ready for its 3rd engine in 48,000 miles due to burning oil. My 3.5L never gave me a problem. My current 3.0L baby Stroke is turning out to be a fantastic mill, as well.

Yes, it痴 a police vehicle. We take our vehicles to an upfitter before issuing them to individual Deputies.

Our 5.0L痴 were around ?4 or ?5. Never a problem one.

I don稚 know why people would think I made this up or why I would care beyond general discussion. When the 2.7L trucks were taken back to Ford, we were told we should have bought the 3.5L EB, mainly for the oversized cooling ability. The pursuit where it puked out transmission fluid was on gravel roads with a lot of dust.

In all fairness, most LE spec vehicles cannot hold up. It痴 not just my agency, either. I talk to cops all over the country who are going through multiple engines and transmissions, in all of the current options.
