We still haven't had any meaningful snow this year. Last storm went around us, but clobbered Fargo and MN pretty good.

It's just now starting to get "kinda" cold even. We've been way above our normal temps up til now.

It's 57° here in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. First time it's gotten above 40° My 18" snow base is melting fast! I can see high water mark (snow mark) about 5" above the snow now. My 450' plowed driveway is turning to mud. It totally stinks to get above freezing in winter!
Sunday night is forecast for 15° with single digit lows later in the week. That means ICE!
I do have about 12 cubic yards of sand stockpiled under tarp which will come in handy.

How does the tarp work with your sand pile? Does it keep it loose enough to be able to spread with your loader? Or does it clump up? Is it tarped year round? I could use some sand at times, butnot sure on how to keep it from freeziing? Thanks, Jon

I have a tarp under the sand and had the dump truck dump it onto that tarp. Then I covered it with another tarp and staked it. The bottom tarp is 16' X 16' and the top 24' x 30'.
Have it dumped on a dry day and uncover it on dry, sunny days if winds are calm. I clear the snow off it so that sunlight warms the tarp. The pile is in a mostly sunny location.

How many years have you been using this technique?
