Quick update with a partial install picture. They didn't have the right size drill bit so the switch is not yet mounted.

Thanks again for everyone's input and help answering questions.

Looks good. Can't wait for the final install pic and maybe one in the dark with the lights on.

How much light bounce do you think you'll get with those lights cantilevered out over the canopy structure?

I may have missed it: which lights did you get?

Thanks,

FTG-05,
I do not really anticipate any light bounce. If the two square tubes were installed just for the lights there would likely be problems, but the fiberglass canopy is mounted through rubber bushings/spacers which together act as a vibration dampener. I'll report back once I hear how they work. My father has some other projects so finishing the light install is taking some time.

For the lights themselves we went with inexpensive 6" LED flood lights from Amazon. If we were making a living with the tractor I'd consider name brand such as Rigid but for this use we just looked for good reviews on Amazon. I think they might have been these ones: Amazon.com: Nilight 4PCS 36w 6.5Inch Flood Led Light Bar Off Road Lights Super Bright Driving Fog Light Boat Lights Driving Lights Led Work Light SUV Jeep Lamp,2 Years Warranty: Automotive

Nilights are good lights! I have them on my Kubota RTV, they really light up the night!

I always put extra lights on but don't often use them. When I do need them, however, I really need them and they make up for lost time. Once, I broke a seeder part and had to work well into the night. With my added front and rear lights I could see like daylight and finished about 15 seconds before it rained for two days. Those lights paid for themselves 100 times over in dollars and about 10 hours of labor saved. Boy was I happy that day.

These days, LED lights are so good and so useful with so little power drain that everyone should have them. Even on my B7800 lawnmower I have lights mounted up front on the weight bracket and can mow after dark after the hot days of the Midwest. Here's that thread from way back...

Better late than never, right? Here are a few pictures of the lights installed.

The two pictures looking forward and to the right from the operator's station show the huge improvement the lights make! The first image has all the standard lights on (headlights plus corner lights), while the second image adds the new canopy mounted LED flood lights. The barn blocks a long-distance comparison in the pictures, but you can see how the front tires and the general area around the tractor much better illuminated. Overall these lights have been a great addition.

A special thank you to oosik and sixdogs for their assistance locating and providing information about the factory pigtail location!

Looks good Rancher Ed! I know your Dad will love those (all except you extending his work day, lol)! I also have a M7040 and with my schedule, I really need more lights, because the factory headlights leave too many blind spots behind the loader.

Looks good and lots of light. LED's have really changed things for the better. Maybe I'll update mine as well and ditch the halogen for LED's.
