Good Morning Everyone,
First time poster here and I found this site while looking up information on grapples. I have recently purchased a new Kubota 3901 HST and am expecting delivery early next week. My goal is to clear a couple of acres that is 90% pine trees with a few hardwoods mixed in. A grapple was one of the items I had originally purchased but canceled almost immediately when I realized it was not an EA grapple. I am torn between size and type of grapple and could use some advice. I want to be able to move brush and logs, load logs, pop the stumps that I can, and get as many roots out as I can. I "THINK" I want the 54" wicked root grapple with dual lids but not sure the dual lids are worth the weight so should I get the single lid? The Wicked 55 Root Rake grapple has also got me thinking on whether I need the longer bottom tines or would I be better off with the shorter tines? Any advice is much appreciated

Brad

Hey Brad,
Pretty sure I talked to you on the phone earlier in the week and will be glad to talk grapples anytime!

You really can't go wrong by choosing any Wicked Grapple we make for compact tractors, but I started this thread for those, like you, who want to dial it in perfectly to your tractor and application: Which Wicked Grapple? A Guide

Also, you'll find MUCH grapple talk and factory pics are posted on the regular, in the Everything Attachments Channel Group. The group has grown to almost 9,000 members, so it's kinda like our own TBN, with lots of helpful knowledge!

I can only comment on the 55" Wicked Grapple. It has more than surpassed my expectations. I have torn down a few buildings, pulled brush out, moved trees, and picked up implements with it.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to me Travis. It was very informative and I知 looking forward to coming up and looking at these before I purchase. I may be able to work from home one day this week and come up.

Thanks to BRMyers for the input as well. It looks like youæ±*e using the 55 on a much larger tractor than mine and after talking to Travis I think that is the size I want.

I went with the smaller grapple to have more lifting ability. I talked with Travis ahead of time and watched the video with them trying to tear up the 55" Wicked on L6060, so I felt fairly confident that I wouldn't tear it up. After using it for just a little bit, it has handled everything I have thrown at.

The one thing you will want to consider is protecting your grill of your tractor. If you aren't careful, you will run a stick/limb right into your radiator.

This is what I did to protect mine.

Maybe that is another item that EA could start making is an improved grill guard for tractors.

BRMyers I like your grill guard. I agree it would be a nice thing to have so no damage comes to the tractor. Looks like you have a load of locust there? If it is nice score.

Fatboy Flash I have the dual lid 72 inch wicked root grapple and I love mine. I use mine more for hauling and moving logs and processing firewood. I do not use it for land clearing but I'm sure what ever everything attachments recommends will work that is who helped me with my pick.

I do a small amount of firewood as well and some of the trees I値l be moving are hardwoods so the longer bottom tines are still in the running but only because I don稚 think my tractor has enough *** to push anything through the ground when there are roots in the way and I think I am being overly optimistic when I知 talking about popping stumps. Thanks for the input.

Have two questions about the EA grapples. I just saw a video that reviewed the wicked 55. The guy had an issue with the two top horizontal hoses wearing were they come out of the C channel to cylinders. Does anyone else have this issue and if so what is the solution. My other question is what grapple would you recommend for a Kubota L3400 with LA463 FEL. The EA site recommends the Compact Tractor Root Grapple 1RGCMP, but at 455lbs I think this maybe to heavy. I'm thinking the wicked 55 at 240lbs. But it doesn't come up as one of their "recommended for this tractor". I'll be using it to move brush and fallen trees, oak and pine 12+ in diameter.

My suggestion, call and talk to Travis and he is more than happy to give you his honest opinion on what he thinks will and won't work on your tractor based on what you are trying to do. My guess, the 55" Wicked would be a better choice, but again, ask the expert.
