Given his needs and price range an Everlast would be a good choice. IMO of course.

I'm wondering what OP means by his welder is fizzling out? People are talking about repair. What's fizzling? Also yes Hobart is the less cost internal parts equipment offered by ITW ( Miller.) Miller doesn't own Hobart, Miller doesn't even own it's self. Both are only assembled in the states but that may be a good thing?. No-one makes a USA welder anymore. All are pretty much imports. Phone tech support is only better than no phone tech support.

If he is comparing to the 135 E.W., the unit is probably not going to have but about 20% duty cycle at 90A, and is not going to have the output of the Everlast. The E.W. unit is listed in the clearance section. Along with several other units. I'd doubly check on support long term...and try to read through the bravado by the sales people to make sure. Ask about buying spare boards at the time of purchase and see how much hem-hawing around they do.

I was looking at the Hobart dual voltage. A couple of people (not experts by any means) said they heard of problems with that particular machine where one side of the voltage goes down and takes the rest of the machine with it...Any truth to that?--The dual voltage seems like a good thing to me. I don't know anyone who has one.

Never heard that rumor and I frequent Hobarts forum...

The Hobart is rumored to be Miller痴 imported model. They have a good reputation and warranty. I知 no expert but I haven稚 seen the Hobart issues.

Assembled in USA from foreign and domestic parts, Hobart is owned by same parent company as Miller and many parts are interchangeable...

Hobart has gotten Miller cast-offs. They used to be fairly one to one, but now that Miller has gone to mostly inverter MIGs Hobart is stuck with the older transformer designs.

As far as made in USA, or assembled in USA, this is one of their units they say is made in Wisconsin, the new multimatic 220. Look at the Mex, and Made in Mexico on every board.

Not always. Buddy JUST informed me this morning he’s been talking to Miller for a week. The board in his Syncrowave is toast and obsolete. He then took (all 300 pounds of it )to the authorized service center to pay them $240 to tell him they couldn’t do anything.
