Jd vs kubota

Received a quote for a kubota l2501 yesterday, looked at the new JD 3032e and it is so much lighter, and only has 2 position HST, vs the 3 on the kubota.

Going to another kubota dealer tomorrow them to my JD Ag pro right down the street to get a quote. After test driving a Few of the old JD 4 series. (4100, 4310) the 3 series seems so much less. But also is all I can afford. Not even sure I can afford the 3032 may need to go to the 3025, which I am not real thrilled about with an almost 700 lb lighter tractor.

Just looking for suggestions, hoping to make decision soon, not much worth on the used market, although the one dealer may have a 2016 L3301 coming I may look at.

No idea on your needs which is fist thing to consider. Know what you will be doing and begin with implements to do that job and then what size tractor you need for that.

Not sure the 3000 model my brother in law has but has about a 40 or so hp engine if not mistaken. He and the tractor or over 1,000 miles from me but I ran it with fel and box blade last year for a few hours. He lives in think called the "Hill" area of Texas and it is rocky rolling land without a doubt. It had the two speed hst and for me use to a much larger JD true farm tractor with FEL was impressed by the power it had. (I have a 27 hp Kubota with HST, no loader so am very use the hst). The only work I did was with those two attachments and it worked very well. Something such as mower might be an issue but to me it was impressive.

Know JD is doing zero percentage right now. Not sure on web site but talked with Dealer Friday. No idea about Kubota. But don't be scare of used either.

Doesn't the 3 series JD in the "-R" (instead of the "-E") come with 3rd range HST? And I did think the JD's were light weight for their overall size.

The 2501 is hard to beat in terms of features. And it has a detuned 34HP engine, so it's more brawny than the rated "25HP" would have you believe.

If cost is an issue, look at some of the 2nd tier brands. Several of them are as good or better than Deere and Kubota but substantially lower cost.

Price wasn’t even a concern and I still decided on a different brand. Having paid substantially less was just Iceing on the cake!

The problem with 2nd tier is they have no dealer near where I will have the tractor. About the only one close is rural king and LS brands.at which there is no LS dealer near my home for me to even go an investigate,

25 HP should be enough for my FEL, and told it is ok for a 5’ bush hog I will get, what worries me is that I have some hills I need to maneuver to get to most of my property so will need the heavier tractor. And I have a deep clay land, and am thinking of plowing it for a garden, and I have heard some say the pot hp is not enough in the smaller 25 hp machines,

My quote was for the hst, a bush hog and filled tires. And I did like all that came with it. I am going to a different dealer tomorrow.gonna also have him quote me a 3301 and see what the actuall difference is, and may have them remove bush hog and just get a used one. (But even them you have to worry I hear)

I honestly don’t feel the need to have the dealer close other than wanting to help support my local economy. I pass within 5 miles of the dealer at least once a week and still find it better to have filters and such sent directly to my home anyway.

Out of curiosity what do you consider close?

A little drive might be worth it as the last I looked you could get a lot of bang for the buck with LS.

Several years ago, when I was shopping for a CUT, I looked closely at JD and Kubota - the only two local dealers. Both machines seemed pretty good, each with strengths and weaknesses. I chose JD (3038e) primarily because of comfort and dealer quality. I did not like the controls on the Kubota as much for long term use as for the JD. I really think - as others have advised - that you need to decide on models for each brand based on your need and budget - then go and sit on and operate them. Tractors have characteristics that make them feel right or not. Go with your feelings, both are good brands. Of course, you can also look for a used, larger tractor - but you won't be as sure of what you get.

The JD is lighter but, with filled tires and implements, I've not experienced any trouble with that. The biggest issue to me with all CUTs is the narrow wheelbase. Compared to the old utility tractors I was used to, they are tremendously more tippy going across slopes. I don't like that but have found no real CUT that is significantly better - unless you ad wheel extenders, which I am doing.

I agree with DK. Both JD and Kubota make good tractors. I've had both and both of them were bulletproof. Try at least one of each and see how they feel to you. While you're there, get a feel for the dealership and their service departments. There's a good chance you will need them at some point. I looked at the same models you are considering since I am near John Deere and Kubota dealers. I decided on the L2501 because it felt more comfortable to my old body and I had a little better feeling about the Kubota dealership. I initially had some reservations about the single treadle pedal but after a few hours of use it feels natural as can be. Having the brakes on the same side as the hst pedal is the dumbest thing I ever saw but so far I have had no need for the split brakes. The little tractor turns on a dime. If I could change anything about it I would like a little more pto horsepower. It is pretty slow in heavy stuff with a 5' bush hog. The loader is a champ and I couldn't do without it.
