Can a 3pt. backhoe actually cost $10,000 ?
All I know is I paid $5200 for mine brand new in 2003 ( Rhino 85, 8 1/2' digging depth and 11' reach.) Included subframe, 18" HD bucket and hose kit.
Been a very good backhoe for me the past 17 years.

Yes, the 10 1/2 foot Woods 1050 3 pt. Hoe on my New Holland TN75D did, Now I have a BH92 on a Kubota MX5200

The last 6 tractors I’ve had had backhoes. Even if I only use them a half dozen times a year I find having one essential.

Yes - like Andy, an appropriately sized hoe for my M6040 would be $10K. I've spent that $10K on a heavy duty grapple and Class 2 rear blade. I've not changed out the grapple since I bought it five years ago. I drop the rear blade when I use my Wallenstein chipper every spring.

The best grapples come in 1/3 of that much. How expensive are rear blades?

OK. So...... the cold/hard facts. The Land Pride SGC 1560 grapple was - $3175. The WR Long third function valve - $1195. The Rhino 950 rear blade was - $3940. Total......... $8310. For 38 years I've looked for used implements. No joy. Not even any crap being offered. There just is not such an animal(s) in this part of the country. The day I sold my Land Pride rear blade - the buyer was in my yard - cash in hand - before I could hang up the phone. I asked & got 85% of the new price - no arguments or dickering involved. He left my yard with a smile that could only be removed by a plastic surgeon.

You are preaching to the choir!
My Kubota L48 TLB has an 11' dig depth.
I may never dig an 11' deep hole, and though I only use it a few times each year, the hoe most certainly does make my life (old) much easier.
I have had a hoe of one brand or another for the past 34 years.
I do not plan to EVER be without a hoe!

Y'all with your "full size tractors and implements" are making me see a parallel is scale and price for my compact tractor & implements.

When I look at the prices on Craigslist & the auction sites like purplewave, ad nauseum the going price for a 6'-7' reach BH is 1,500-8K for some brand new with thumbs and large buckets....

My goal was to find a used one under 3K. Eventually got this one for $2K fortunately it has a working PTO system but didn't come with the sub frame.

So the old adage of realestate, "location, location, location." Has its truth in this sub-field of the economy as well.

I paid 7k for my Woods 65 BH on my Kubota B2620 exactly 3 yrs ago and can count the times I've used it on one hand. I'm planning on selling it. I live in the Hudson Valley of NY if anyone is interested

I don't dig deep, but I wish I could dig farther back, more reach. Guess that's part of the same boom length issue though.

The other thing is I wish I could dig offset but parallel as sketched. I'm not sure any machine can do that though. Not sure it's even possible with today's hydraulics and mechanics. You'd need some kind of articulated boom and the stresses would be extreme.

Digging depth is commonly misunderstood in discussing Backhoes. "Hey, mine will dig 6ft deep, that's enough for me." "But I wish it would reach farther." Never forget, digging depth equals reach. :)

Your parallel digging concept is interesting. A rotating bucket would accomplish that. But the digging depth would be very restricted. And it would take an operator with expert skills.
