Reason to upgrade to a cab tractor

/ Reason to upgrade to a cab tractor #31
I've been out here 39 years. Always had an open station tractor( two ). I choose this way because I like being "open" - I don't need to be out plowing snow that much - I don't bush hog.

HOWEVER - there are those times when a heated cab would be nice. Especially as one gets older. "Suiting up" in full Eddie Bauer down, from head to toe, isn't quite as appealing as it once was............

I wear Kuiu Myself....:D

I as well have both open station as well as a cab and love both for different things. When I was trying to decide which on to get initially I was leaning to an open station. I am a paramedic and I have a collogue who is a paramedic who was brushing hogging a field on his family farm with an open stations tractor. He ran over a large mud wasp nest that that swarmed and attached him. He panicked and jumped off the tractor and unfortunately the tractor and brush hog ran over him cutting off below the knee. He called the county 911 which the dispatchers all knew him. I have listed to the tape where explains he is using best to make and improvised tourniquet. To say it is chilling to listen to would be understatement. He was transported to local trauma center by fellow EMS workers he knew and helped train.

As bad as this situation was the good news he lived and after a number of surgeries he now has a prosthetic lower leg and is back working as a paramedic. It is so good to see him back as a paramedic in that he a such a good provider and has helped a lot of people with medical issues.

This incident occurred 3 weeks before I decided to order the cabed unit. For me their is a added element of safety to having a cab. That statement is most likely the medical guy coming out in me not being economical frugal. Yes I a agree with a number of comments already made snow blowing in the winter being warm and coolness in the hot summer also added to the safety in ways I never ever dreamed of.

When you are running a disc mower like I do, a cab is really mandatory because the mower can throw stuff like stones and branches hidden the standing hay forward and so protection is necessary. In fact, no disc machine builder recommends running one with an open station unit. Just too dangerous.

I have spent many years snow blowing with an open station tractor. It's been cold and the snow blowing back in my face just has not been fun. A heated and cooled cab was the way to go. Here is a picture of my indoor/outdoor thermometer inside the cab.

You need to put at least one rear facing camera on the back. Makes it easier on you in as much as you don't have to look back over your shoulder all the time. What I did. I have 3 cams. One looking to the right, one looking straight back and one to the left. Makes snow blowing less strain on the back and running implements easier too, especially implements that run to either side like a hay mower.

I have good rear view mirrors on my cab that work very well. The seat in my NH t4.75 also swivels to the right so that helps when I look backward. The cameras do sound like a good idea too.

I have seasonal allergies and would love to have a cab... but the budget was not and is not there for it. So rather than go without a tractor, we have an open station. I wear a face mask with filter to mow with but don't need it otherwise except when the wild fire smoke is bad..

Love to have a cab, but we live within our means.

In reality a cabin tractor won't do much for your allergies, way too much outside air infiltration to be much good at that. Every place a control lever or cable penetrates the cab space, air gets in anyway. You'd still wear a mask. Might as well stick with an OS unit.

In your picture you sure look like you are looking back... I too have rearview mirrors, actually 3. One outside on each side and one on the inside right side looking back (like a car) but I use the cams more than the mirrors especially when farming. My Grammer swivels too, just not far enough to be of consequence. Good for ingress and egress though.

I do notice you have a bit of a negative lean on your blower. Is that intentional? I run mine with a little positive lean so it 'bites' into the snow better and allows the cutting edge to get into the snow better.
