Reason to upgrade to a cab tractor

/ Reason to upgrade to a cab tractor #22
Pretty simple really... Age and comfort. I'm old and I like cush on my tush (as in air ride seat) and refrigerated air on a hot summer day in the field. I still have both, open station and cab. Hard to beat a cab when caught in the rain too.

Branches can "beat" them smashingly.

Does the blade on a road grader have a float position like our FEL's?

Yes. But if you use it you'll scrape all the loose gravel off. Carry the blade, trying to leave an inch or inch and a half on the roadbed. Normal speed is 14-18mph. I'm very familiar with my roads and keep them smooth and properly shaped. Makes snow pushing much easier. Last push I cleared 50 miles of roads in 7 hours.

Sorry to derail your thread ipegagus. :(

After using the little JD855 last year to move snow when the plow truck died, there was no question my new tractor would have a cab. LS only charges $4k for a cab with heat and A/C so that was a huge plus. Fortunately, my fiancée wanted one too so that made the investment easy.

The only downside is working in the woods.

Love the cab.

120-125 degrees out my way so an enclosed cab with A/C is a must if you want to stay alive. The second reason is the dust which can give you Valley Fever and that can kill you - it killed my friend's dad when he moved to Tucson.

Last year the wife and I were trimming a 1/2 mile of oleander bushes in the heat. It was so miserable we both felt like we were going to pass out so we huddled in the cab of the Kubota with the AC on just to catch out breath and revive us.

Lastly, when I was clearing some shrubs I hit a killer bee hive or hives. They attacked the cab and it felt like a solar eclipse as all the windows were full of bees and blocked all the sun coming in the cab.

I will never ever do any land work without a cab no matter what it costs my life is worth more than the cost of the cab.

I did the exact same thing . I wanted a tractor with a cab that would go into my drive in cellar garage so I chose the b2650 , it just fits . My cellar stays at about 60 degrees so it is all ready to go for each new storm . I have to turn off the heater or dial down the heat control knob most days as it gets to warm inside the cab. I will admit I would rather have no cab in the summer , the air conditioner is fine but would rather be out in the fresh air as it doesn't get all that hot where I live in the summer. .

I usually take my doors off in the summer, since I never use the AC. Two hinge pins each side and pop the shock absorber off and the door is off. Takes about 10 minutes total. I too enjoy the fresh air and the cab roof still keeps the sun from beating down on you.

I own both and use both. Some operations I do like hay bailing and disc mowing require a cab to keep the chaff outta your nose and eyes and the ac keeps you cool too, but, the open station with a canopy is great for raking and loading bales on trailers. Cab tractors are nice but you always have to watch out for overhead obstacles....lol

I as well have both open station as well as a cab and love both for different things. When I was trying to decide which on to get initially I was leaning to an open station. I am a paramedic and I have a collogue who is a paramedic who was brushing hogging a field on his family farm with an open stations tractor. He ran over a large mud wasp nest that that swarmed and attached him. He panicked and jumped off the tractor and unfortunately the tractor and brush hog ran over him cutting off below the knee. He called the county 911 which the dispatchers all knew him. I have listed to the tape where explains he is using best to make and improvised tourniquet. To say it is chilling to listen to would be understatement. He was transported to local trauma center by fellow EMS workers he knew and helped train.

As bad as this situation was the good news he lived and after a number of surgeries he now has a prosthetic lower leg and is back working as a paramedic. It is so good to see him back as a paramedic in that he a such a good provider and has helped a lot of people with medical issues.

This incident occurred 3 weeks before I decided to order the cabed unit. For me their is a added element of safety to having a cab. That statement is most likely the medical guy coming out in me not being economical frugal. Yes I a agree with a number of comments already made snow blowing in the winter being warm and coolness in the hot summer also added to the safety in ways I never ever dreamed of.

I've been out here 39 years. Always had an open station tractor( two ). I choose this way because I like being "open" - I don't need to be out plowing snow that much - I don't bush hog.

HOWEVER - there are those times when a heated cab would be nice. Especially as one gets older. "Suiting up" in full Eddie Bauer down, from head to toe, isn't quite as appealing as it once was............

I guess I never felt the need to be in an open anything... ha.

Granted if the weather is good I leave the house windows open. But up here in north idaho it’s the heater that gets the most workout. Even in summer evenings the light jackets may come out. I love my air conditioning and heating.

Oh, and you can kerp the bugs and dust.
