Anyone have issues getting the rear axle to lock. Sometimes my locks fine and at other times it will not lock.

I assume you mean depressing the diff lock. Mine doesn't engaged until my tires start spinning and oftentimes won't release until the load is off the drivetrain. It's been that was from day 1 so I always assumed that was normal

I dunno if it's any different with the massey as with my craftsman gt. On that, it's a pin that slides into a hole, that's how the axle locks there. That's why you don't want to be spinning your working tire while trying to engage it, you'll sheer that pin right off. That's also why it sometimes does not immediately unlock, the pin gets trapped there while the tractor is moving.

If it's not engaging, give it just a little bit of gas, forward or reverse don't matter, just enough to slowly turn your tire, while pressing on the diff lock. The pin will slide in when it lines up with the hole.

Ditto... it takes a bit of fiddling to get it to engage. Moving tires is OK, just not spinning wicked fast while pushing on lever. My 2310 can be real stubborn at times, but it will eventually engage. I believe that's pretty much the norm for these tractors and their rear diff lock-up.

Mine engages while the rear tires are slowly rotating/with foot pressure on the differential locking bar, which indicates some sort of a slot that needs to be lined up.

Mine seems to engage whenever I press it... And releases when I'm off the lever...

I'm not looking to alarm you or anything, hopefully I'm wrong, but that almost sound like there's a problem there, ie, the pin sheered off. You sure it's locking when you step on the lever?

My problem is I keep forgetting that I have this option.

Yes because I can dig 2 holes in ground when I get tires to spin... Seem as tractor it so light weight and has adequate horsepower when I get attached to something too heavy to pull (tree stump for instance) I can dig holes (deep too) with both rear wheels ... The would indicate rear axle locking differential is working.....

Don't want to alarm you but if you are not getting good engagement maybe yours is having a problem

May want to review pages 3-20 of your owners manual... Where it states tractor should be stopped when engaging real differential lock...

Ok, do you dig 2 holes like that when NOT stepping on the differential?
