Here in Norwaay Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe and early on Mitsubishi i-miev was selling well, the Mitsubishi is to day still for sale but is an relic whit noe sales, Zoe is upgraded, the same with Leaf but its yesterdays news, Renault have several EV for 2020, PSA with Peugeot/Citroen is putting out new EV for 2020, VW has sold well with e-golf but all focus today are the new ID3 on a pure EV platform that will be interesting to see live, all these cars are ordinary cars for pepole with normal income, Tesla S and X, Audi Etron and the new Mercedes will ofcourse sell well, the same with Volvos Polestar as Volvo are our scandinavian car :)

But for the japanes brands it looks grim, no real comitment to EV.

I did not realize Japan and the EC have a trade pac in place so they no longer need England for tax reasons to make cars for sale in the EC. Now they can take the jobs back to Japan and ship vehicles to the EC if they keep playing in that market.

The time and money Japan spent on hydrogen fuel cell technology may cost them in the EV markets in the short and long term. Actually Elon Musk has been saying Hydrogen for EV's just does not add up.

This statement is incomplete...it should include "within a system"...

Batteries lose charge on their own not connected to anything where does that energy go?...A generator will run until it's out of gas with nothing plugged in, where does that energy go?

Do note if you apply something like the 'string theory'...the size of a system could be infinite...

The energy is still there, it is just "less available". Entropy.

In a discussion about why Nissan failed to gain long term success as a EV maker with their Leaf several things get mentioned. While the civil war between the French and Japanese mindsets of the last two decades was a factor the over riding technical factor was they NEVER figured out to build EV batteries after all of these years.

Why is Tesla the number one talked about EV today? The three top reasons are batteries, batteries and batteries. Look at the dates on the articles below. 14 years ago Tesla was laying the foundation that let them become an over night success over a decade later. :)

Yes, no automobile company will ever be anything but a minor custom builder without building their own engines. So why does everyone but Tesla think they can EV without building their own batteries? Can do well buying tires from 3rd parties, but the battery is the core of an EV.

With mobility services taking off it will not be long before re fueling the electric car will be far easier than re fueling a gas or diesel vehicle.

Meh. Wired charging is 99.97% Why would I pay 8% extra to save 15 seconds?

What is the charging rate for these wireless changing devices? Like is it much slower than a typical 32 amp direct wired 240 volt home charger? I think they may be in demand more like an automatic transmission vs a stick shift.

Good question. I think "wireless charging" is a solution in search of a problem. The EVSE in my video is capable of 72A at 240VAC. Is set to 40A max delivery on 50A circuit but is wired with 2 awg.

How much sleep do you lose worrying about when robotic gasoline hoses will finally appear? Clearly the gasoline vehicle market will never take off and be mainstream until we have easy effortless automatic gas stations!

the article does say a scaled up standard is being worked on- defined under WPT9

J2954/2 for 500 kW charging for heavy-duty vehicles which will require more space for the induction plate

Mmm doesn't actually seem practical yet for trying to full charge from a low state while on the road does it.

The article also mentions charging efficiencies of 85% which is well below where WiTricity is today.

Great info. I think it has a place where machines need to recharge their batteries in environments with no humans nearby to make a manual connection. I agree when it comes to EV's that still require human drivers this is a solution looking for a problem. I find this old idea interesting and know this technology is out there for cell phone charging.

The below is talking about future EV battery improvements that may be in place in a meaningful way in the next 3-5 years (based on current contracts Tesla is signing with it LG Chem, etc). The Panasonic relationship may starting to unwind as Tesla seems to be planning to go totally vertical for their EV battery needs. Again Tesla may give more details on their April? Battery Day event about their scale-able prototype of improved battery technology.
