F350 to F450 suspensions

C&C trucks have heavier frames. The engines have lower hp& tq ratings.

I have a 18 F350 and a 18 F450. The 450 is a duallay dump 4x4 V10. It's a beast.it pulls, hauls and steers miles better than the 350. But rides like a 7k pound roller skate. That said I really like it. I have had several F350 Dump trucks... they don't compare to the 450/550 series.

the V10 does okay? I was looking at one of those to have around.

Just comparing a modern 350 to your 06 is gonna be a huge improvement.

And not sure if it is still true, but payload capacity is often real close or sometimes even higher for the 350 class trucks than the 450. Because they are pushing the GVWR of the ton trucks up pretty high over the past decade or two, where the 450 class trucks dont seem to be in the HP/torque and payload/towing war that the 1-tons are. And the added weight of the 450 class trucks....means there is little difference in payload and towing capacity regardless of how much heavier/better/safer the truck may be.

A new regular cab F450 4wd w/4.30 gears can tow 36,400 with a GN. A regular cab F350 w/4.10 gears can tow 35,400 w/GN

Limiting a F-450 to 5900 pounds is a joke. hauling 7800 on a ton truck is do able. I’ve done it but it’s a big load and it’s hard on it. I’ve grossed 22,000 with a 90s F super duty and the 16” tires are the weak link. Regardless of what the paper says a 450 is a way more capable truck than the regular tons especially hauling on the bed.

You may think it's a joke, and you are certainly welcome to overload it if you want.....but the mfg days otherwise.

Actually there is t much difference between the new f350 and f450.

Same rear axles, same gvwr, only a few hundred pounds difference in curb weight, etc.

The 7800 max payload on the 350....that is with the lighter gas engine too. Since gvwr's rarely change with comparing gas vs diesel, obviously the lighter you can make the truck, the more payload. So a 2wd gasser regular cab in F350 trim is the max here

LD1 - is that the pickup versions or cab and chassis versions? I would think the C&C payload would be drastically different between F350 and F450.

If you are looking at the pickup version of the F450 you are absolutely right. For 2020 Ford offers the F350 DRW pickup with either a gas or diesel engine and a GVWR of 14,000 pounds. The pickup version of the F450 has the same axles and 14,000 pound GVWR but is only available with the diesel engine. As a result the lighter gas powered F350 has a higher payload since the trucks have the same GVWR.

Stepping up to the Chassis-cab F450 bumps the maximum available GVWR to 16,500 pounds, with a corresponding published max payload of 9,850 pounds. (The F550 chassis-cab is available with GVWR up to 19,500 pounds and payload exceeding 12k.)

OP,
It sounds like you are only looking at the pickups, and likely only looking at diesels. This means for all intents and purposes the F350 and F450 will have the same GVWR, GAWR, and payloads. I would prefer the F450 for the better turning radius (wide front track) and better brakes & tires (17" vs 19.5" rims). You will not NEED airbags, but depending on how much pin-weight your trailers have they might provide a better ride and keep your headlights pointed where you want them.

I don’t think you’re right about the same axle part. The 450 is at minimum 10 lug vs 8. The ones I’ve seen are quite a bit heavier with heavier springs and brakes to match. I don’t know what the highest GVW of a new 450 is but even the old F super duty’s of the 90s were 15k.

I was indeed looking at the pickup version of the 450, because I couldn't find on Ford's website where the CNC trucks were.

And both 450 and 350 in pickup trim both show the 9900 rawr
