I guess if looking to buy used, one must pay close attention to specs.

Just found the CNC trucks on the website. (I wasn't looking under commercial vehicles)

The 350/450/550 are all real similar when comparing apples to apples. IE: same engine, wheelbase, etc. The 450 and 550 weigh the same and the 350 is only a few hundred behind.

The 350 is 14k gvwr. And 7800# payload in 4wd.

The 450 can be had in 15k, 16k, or 16.5k gvw.

The lighter gvwr can only haul a few hundred more than the 350. And yes, the 16.5k can haul 9500 ish.

But the point I made earlier remains. The gap between the 350 trucks and the 450 trucks have narrowed. Because you can get 15-20 year old 450's with 16-16.5k ratings. Whereas the ton trucks of 20 years ago were in the 11-12k range

the V10 does okay? I was looking at one of those to have around.

This is my 3rd V10 dump. First was a 350 4x4 basic XL package.. I think it was a 2009. Nice truck but. I ended up trading to a F350 diesel dump ..think it was a 2012 or 2013. Had some issues with it and traded it for a 2014 F450 with the V10 and that one had the auto 5 speed trans. .. I found that truck extremely uncomfortable being 6-2" and traded it for the new body style F450 V10 with the. 6 speed auto. ..there is a night and day difference between the 5 speed and the 6 speed. The truck pulls way better and way smoother. ..it still loves fuel though. While I didn't buy it for its fuel economy..it's brutal. 6-7 mpg is what it gets. ..

I was indeed looking at the pickup version of the 450, because I couldn't find on Ford's website where the CNC trucks were.

And both 450 and 350 in pickup trim both show the 9900 rawr

My F45o is a C&C ..not a pickup truck. I believe the GVW was just shy of 17k ... I had thought about getting the F550 for another 1500.00 or so..but opted for a aluminum dump body that weighs quite a bit less than a steel one....and won't rust ..which allows me to increase my payload...and the payload number is quite a bit higher than what you had posted.

I had a 2000 F-450 with an aluminum dump. 7.3L diesel. I liked it a lot, but couldn’t dump rocks or heavy stumps in it without some scrap plywood in the bed. 15,000 GVWR.

That’s the single biggest reason I got rid of the 3500HD I had. For those not familiar the 1990s 3500hd was the 450-550 of that period. I figured if I was going to get terrible mileage I might as well drive my Topkick and haul 10 tons.

I think we all know the 350s aren’t made to haul 7800 pounds every day. They’ll be junk in short order doing that. There’s a reason the commercial trucks are de rated over the bragging war pickup trucks. The 450s will haul 7800 pounds every day. Have you looked over the trucks close? There’s a big difference.

I work on a fleet of 5 or 6 ford F450's everyday. Ranging from 03 to 07. One short wheelbase 4wd that used to have a utility body, now a flat bed and 6.0, One 4-door 2wd with 7.3l and a dumping flatbed, one 2wd with a dump body and 6.0, one 2wd 6.0 with just a plain flatbed, and one 2wd with 6.0 that has a LONG flatbed and dovetail for hauling mowers.

They all are ~16k or 16.5k GVW's. They ALL weigh in the 10k-11k range empty. giving them ~3-ton payload capacities.

I have a '16 ram 3500 CNC. And aside from the 450's having 19.5's.....there really isnt a whole lot of difference.

So....to answer the question.....YES I have looked over the trucks closely.

A 4wd, 169" WB, 6.7L F350 CNC weighs 7260#
A 4wd, 169" WB, 6.7L F450 CNC weighs 7783#

Thats only 523# heavier for the F450. And the F550 weighs the SAME as the F450

The F450 and F550 have 19.5" wheels/tires and larger brakes front and rear. (which takes up probably a good bit of that 523# difference)

Cannot find anything that differentiates the front or rear axle ratings??

Not trying to start a debate or pi$$ing contest. But aside from the 19.5" wheels/tires and larger brakes....with what little that is left of the ~500 pound difference is the 350 vs 450 quantify's saying that the 350's arent made to haul 7800# everyday or they will be junk in short order? And conversely.....just WHAT would allow the F450 to haul its max of 9800# everyday and NOT be junk in short order?

And while on the topic...since they weight the EXACT SAME.....and according to any relevant spec I can find online.....just what is different on the new F550 that allows it to carry even 3000# MORE than the F450?

Lets think about this.....a 7200# curb weight truck carrying ~7800# everyday is gonna be junk in no time. But somehow a 7700# can haul around 12,000 pounds everyday? You think an added 500# of curb weight makes that much difference?

Honest questions. As I have stated, I have intimate experience with ~15 year old F450's. ANd with a 4 year old dodge CNC. Not so much with these bran new ford CNC's. But on paper it just looks like the F450 is a derated F550 with a different emblem. And that the F350 is quite a capable truck and nipping on the heals of what ford has chosen to derate the F450 to??

450 and 550 are basically same, 550 has heavier 14,000lb rear axle and maybe a little extra frame reinforcement. Mines an older 550 (‘08), but tows 13-14 tons on a weekly basis and has done so for 9 years.

Wouldnt that make the F550 a little heavier? Ford list the curb weights the EXACT SAME for the current 2020 models?

Unless it’s really a 14k on the 450.
