F350 to F450 suspensions

Yup. Everything I read leads me to believe they are the same truck, just a different emblem and different rating

Back a while ago, the 450 had a Dana spicer 110 and the 550 had the Dana spicer 135.
Mine has the high cap tow package and I came to find out all that was is a bigger transmission cooler.

The 550s I’ve seen have more springs and I think they’re gvw up to like 19.5k but I have no idea about the axels. I’m really not a Ford guy to start with and 6.0s and 6.4s in the era trucks I want doesn’t help the case.

I'm not a Ford guy either But fixing them pays the bills.

I just know comparing my 2016 dodge 3500 CNC to Ford F450's that are 10 years older....I'd say my dodge is every bit as heavy duty and capable. I wouldn't bat an eye at putting 5k or 6k on it everyday. Which is about all the Ford's can "legally" handle

That is the dilemma I have in picking up a used one, the old 7.3s are the priced on the gold standard and no one wants the 6.0 and 6.4. The 6.7s are too new for what I want to spend for a used truck that might see twice a month use.

That’s exactly the reason I don’t have one.

We have a couple year old f450 with the pickup bed at work, I was surprised to see it has 17in wheels. I'm not around it often but I'm willing to bet the axles are the same as the 350.
I cant remember the light count but the larger brakes wouldn't fit with the 17in wheels that I know of.
There have been a lot of changes to the 450-550 line over the years it would appear so I'm not sure they can really be compared apples to apples.

I have 3 6.4L
They are not all that bad. The DPF is the evil part of the engine. The transmission, axles and rolling chassis are excellent and haven’t cost me a dime.
I have a combined 16 years of ownership on the 3. 1 needed rocker arms at 178,000 miles ( early 2008 units had inferior rocker arms). One needed a sequential turbo replaced at 125,000. The 3rd needed high pressure fuel pump at 100k. Only 1 truck has a small amount of rust, because previous owner left it outside. I may have to replace an oil cooler in same truck.
If you can get them cheap enough, which I did, they pull excellent and run strong. Once you own them a while, you begin to understand they were not the most dependable diesel ever made-mostly due to the DPF, but you also begin to understand that the internet hysteria you read about the 6.4 is overblown. I’ll put 10 years of weight tickets hauling hay against anyone’s other similar size truck. The 6.4 is a very good puller.
If you delete the dpf, I hear they’re excellent. Mine are still all bone stock and have 1/2 million miles on the 3. I bought all 3 used and have less in them than a new F-150.

In the C&C version of the F450, it痴 identical to the 550 other than another set of rear leaf springs. ..Same axles, dame frame, same trans, etc.

Well as an update i took the plunge. Im still of the opinion that these things cost way too much. But the dealer was patient with me.....actually ordered the truck from the factory last june with every option i wanted, with no pbligation on my part. Negotiations continued/stalled for 8 months. Finally hot to a number that i liked....and pulled the trigger. In the meantime my 06 dually had another issue that is currently being fixed....guess thats my sign....lol.
Not going to put airbags on right away. This suspension seems/feels/looks beefy. I used to have big slide in campers that weighed 4k+ , the bags really helped with them. No plans of doing that with the new truck, at least not now.
Appreciate all the input!
