I really, really like 2lanecruzer's shop. Very spacious for it's size due to the construction method!!! I like his wall decorations. Very fitting for his autos!!!

I'm glad you got through it all, but I am sure it was a huge emotional roller coaster for you ovrszd

Thank you. It really sucked.

If you have insurance I would recommend an inventory of your shop contents. Really surprising how it adds up. I lost $40,000.

Another thing, read the fine print in your insurance policy. A common policy will be at a minimum 30 pages. Could be as large as 70 pages. In all that lawyer talk you will find specific restrictions. For example, unless an additional rider was applied my policy only covered $500 in automotive parts. I got hit hard there.

How many of you have ever read your policy?

I didn't have a lift in that shop. I do now. It has to be covered on a separate policy.

I had Shelter Insurance Company coverage. I had "replacement coverage" on my contents. My Company never hesitated to pay for claimed items that were covered. I never met the Claims Agent, only communicated by phone and email. She was a young lady. We got along great. I was able to add items I had forgotten over the two year span. A week before the deadline she called me and reminded me it was coming. I only had a few small items to replace by then. I asked for her Supervisor's contact information. I wrote him a lengthy email about my dealings with his Agent and how professional and thorough she was.

Thank you. It's perfect for what I use it for; 24X32...and I like the 16 foot door. Sorry about your disaster; I hate to think of the emotional merry go round you wen through.

Just by looking at your shop I know you would understand. My shop was similar. Had a beer/soda can collection of 375 cans from all over the World. A lot of the local brand cans my Sons had found in road ditches. My shop, and I know yours, is a reflection of my life. It really sucked.

Sorry for your loss Richard. In-laws had a house fire (total loss) some years back and the fight with the insurance company was epic....so I can imagine yours was as well. Only hope your settlement came somewhat close to the loss.

My shop started as a 24x36 I basically built with a chainsaw/sawmill lumber, as we had no power to the place then, and I couldn't afford a generator. We had to throw it up quick, as we sold our house in town and moved a mobile home to the farm. The loft of the shop was storage for all the stuff from the house that wouldn't fit in the small MH.

Worked out of it for 10 years, cussing the 8' ceiling every time I'd swing a board vertical, so by mid 90's, we were in a better financial shape to build a bigger shop.....plus I'd bought a Woodmizer sawmill and was able to cut a lot of the material off our place. Tore the original shop down, extended the slab 50' so the new footprint ended up around 35 x75.

Most of my shop use is wood working, so that was the focus. Did put an oil change pit in the front part for access under vehicles for oil changes/etc.

Ran a 9" pipe under the slab for dust collection at machines, connected to a 3hp blower outside. My thinking is it takes less to suck down/out than UP/out like most collection systems.....plus I wanted as little overhead to collect "fine" dust as possible.

Inside, over the top of the pipe, I arranged for table saw, jointer and planer to sit with 4 & 6" takeoffs the main pipe for dust pickup.

More recent photo. Old red wood stove burned out, replaced with a bigger one. 15" Grizzly planer replaced with a spiral head 20", added a stroke sander on right wall & had to mount a fan in that wall to help with the really fine dust that comes off the dust collection doesn't pick up.

Keep the back 12' of the old shop, and turned it into a work/reloading room, a storage room, and a dry kiln (the door on the left back). Kiln uses an old window AC to dry/dehumidify lumber.

Very, very nice Woodworking Shop Andy!!!!! Excellent idea for collecting sawdust!!!! I would have never thought to do that.

I also like the building design to get more ceiling height with minimal building cost!!!

Theres some really nice shops on here, hopefully one day I can get mine organized and finish moving in.
Only picture I have of the whole shop is from about a year ago, taken from the storage mezzanine. It has a lot more stuff in it now but needs a good cleaning/organizing.1199875281.jpeg

I'm in my shop every day. Every day I clean up or put away something. I'm never caught up. Only guy I've ever saw that can accomplish this is Big Barn (Terry). But he has an advantage cause there's no dirt in BC.

I was wiring up a 100hp motor on a local sawmill one day when it hit me "MAN this a lot of power to raise their dust up and out"...of course they HAD a lot of dust, and it was heavy green stuff....but still..... Only disadvantage is my machines are pretty much fixed as to location....could do some moving with hoses connected to the floor take offs I guess, but I tried to think about motion of the wood and lay the machines out that way, and it works for me.

The ceiling was a result of my previous shop, knocking a light out every time I'd swing a board around, so this one is 14' high in the center, sloping down to 8' on the side walls. I built trusses out of lumber off my mill....2x6 legs down the side slope and 2x4 on the top part.

Excellent idea!!!! I also like the looks of it from the outside. Has an old barn look!!!
