Talk about a PITA. I had planned to visit my mother this weekend, prune the apple trees and pick up my ATV which has been stored in her shed. Instead I'm going to drive 200 miles, spend a couple of hours in the trees, load the ATV, wave to her through the window and come back home. I may also leave a dozen eggs on her porch. There are no reports of the virus up here, and I can go down and back on a tank of gas; but she's 83 years old and it isn't worth taking a chance until we get a handle on what's going on.

My dad is right handed. My mom left. 1st sibling right. 2nd sibling ambidextrous. 3rd sibling left. 4th sibling right. And I'm left.

So three rights, three lefts, and a switch hitter. We had specific seating assignments at dinner.

My mom was forced to write right handed in school. So she knew the stigma and pain. She made sure they let me write left handed. While that was nice, here's the kicker. I'm right eye dominant. I write, throw, bat left handed. But I aim right handed. So things like guns, scissors, drinking are all aiming tasks. The teachers tried to force me to use lefty scissors. Finally convinced them I'm split handed.

Over time, I became mostly ambidextrous. I whittle left handed, but I cut food right handed. I can use a hammer, screwdriver, hand tools, power tools, etc.... with either hand no problem. I can write with either hand, but left is noticeably nicer. I shift my car right handed too....

I知 predominantly right handed, back in my 20s, I broke my right shoulder 2x in a year..learned to write and function with my left hand. Today, i find myself using both hands almost equally, I eat with which ever hand is near the utensil, primary write with my right hand, but if I知 marking something with a tape measure, I値l use my left. ..I have played hockey since 4-5 years old. Shoot a puck left handed, swing a bat left and right handed. Throw a ball right handed. Hit a golf ball right handed..shoot right eye dominant

I believe in 12-18 months we won't remember any of these threads and most certainly won't remember the technical name for this virus.

I hope so!!!

Funny, I eat left handed, but write right handed (seemed like the right thing to do at the time :D)

As a teenager, I partially dislocated my right shoulder at a summer camp and wasn't able to do much with it for a week or so till I got back as it was in a sling. Ever since, I have eaten right handed.

I could never seem to pick a side.

I write left handed, bowl right handed, play tennis left handed, baseball right handed, shoot a gun left handed. Go figure.

Oddly enough, I'm not particularly ambidextrous for any specific activity.

Want to perform a simple fun test?

Hold up your index finger at arms length and look at it with BOTH eyes open.
Pick a spot on the wall and line up the top of the index finger with that spot. Remember BOTH eyes open.
Now close one eye. Then open that eye and close the other. Note which eye the finger and spot stays lined up with (the other one will "jump")

Which ever eye keeps the finger and spot lined up is your "dominate eye" and "usually" indicates which handedness you are, but not always. But it is your dominant eye for sure.

We used to do that little test at the range all the time. Sometimes the people were surprised.

Left eye, left handed pretty cool....:)

Yeah, a small percentage of the population are "cross wired", but not too many. My wife is one. She shoots a pistol right handed and is left eye dominate. She just shifts her head over behind the sights and does very well. She shoots a rifle poorly and a shotgun even worse. It is always good to know which is your dominate eye.

Well thanks. I poked myself in the eye.

When they handed my a toy rifle when I was little, I naturally put it up to my right shoulder to aim it. My dad noticed that I was shooting right handed even though I'm left handed. He made it a point to let me do things the way I naturally felt comfortable with, rather than labeling me left or right handed. Very encouraging parent.
