Another option would be clamping down extremely tightly with a large pair of vice grips on the punch and then hitting the vice grips with the hammer.Like he said there is not room between teeth to get a hammer and punch in a straight line. You need a short punch and a hydraulic ram (Porta-Power) to punch straight. The pins are hollow so get all the rust and dirt out of the inside first. That will allow the rust busting process work better. Take a cutting torch with 00 tip and burn part of it out from the inside after you can see through it. That will let it shrink some when punching. A little slice in the existing won't hurt anything. Just clean the hole out to clean metal before installing the new one.
