Tractor
Kioti 5310
I own a Kioti 5310 tractor and use it for all kinds of jobs. One that is particularly frustrating is moving slash from one place to another. Typically I use the front bucket on the tractor for this job, but it only holds a small amount, no matter how carefully I try to load it.

Has anyone built what I will call a "slash carrier" out of wood, maybe about 4' x 8' in dimension, that you could pick-up with your pallet forks and use to move large quantities of slash? Basically it would be a big wooden box with the front side missing that would be chained or attached to the forks somehow so it wouldn't fall off when you tilt the forks forward so the slash could slide out of the box.

Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I mounted this used JD bale grapple atop a fork carrier for handling, mostly hand bombed branches. You can keep compressing it like a garbage truck and get a lot on there, and not a one lost on the way to the brush pile, then dump it square on top of the pile and press down for compaction. I removed the OEM teeth later as they got in the way, having been meant for hay bales.

I got tired of following a trail of fallen off branches on the way to the brush pile and having to manually unload brush when you got there.

I bolted some old angle iron on to my forks to make a debris fork. They work great.

You need a grapple...Will be the best thing you ever did for dealings with trees, logs, brush...

My pallet forks have worked OK, maybe not as great as other options, but OK.. This summer I plan to build extra teeth for my pallet forks somewhat like in post #4..

I would like an electric bolt on grapple one day when competition makes them cheaper and more available. One trick I have used is to lay 2 ropes on the ground, put the brush on the ropes, pick up the brush, throw the end of the rope over the brush, tie it to the top of the pallet forks rack, run over the rope with the tractor front wheels to tighten the load. When it is tight, tie around it to the fork frame. Back off the ropes under the wheels. It is a bit of extra work right now, but works well.

Found a guard off some machine, its expanded metal and when secured in FEL bucket makes about a 4 foot square "basket"....

Any sort of big box or basket the will secure to FEL bucket is possible slash hauler....

Maybe old plastic pallet box or something similar.?...

I made mine from 4' long metal rods that screw into the frame:

Just drive into the slash and pick it up:

Take it to the pile and dump it:

I used to have a neighbor that ran a precut/pallet (wood) business. He ended up with lots and lots of cut offs that were useless for his business. He devised out of pallets (imagine that use) a “box to collect these in. The bottom pallet was hinged. When moving the box was picked up by the bottom where it stayed in place. Then when ready to dump, there were slots (never checked it out empty so not sure how the slots were setup other than his forks on his fork lift came out the front of the ‘box’) and then he raised the box to dump with the bottom free to swing out of the way.
Pallets would not work for you other as a good bottom for lifting. A few sheets of plywood with some 2x’s for possible reinforcement should do what you need (floor, 3 sides, or if use the hinge process maybe a short front wall for easier loading and angles side walls). Put your out of the box hat on and you can come up with a working prototype.
