Once grease is open it should not sit around. I have seen people with grease guns hanging in cold barns for months if not years on end, bad practice (separation and contamination). ONLY buy enough to last 6 months and store in controlled climate, see chart.

Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease, NLGI #2

I guess I am about to find out how bad grease is after 5 years... I wonder if this chart is conservative. Has anyone done a study on this? Does it matter if you keep the grease sealed, or even under vacuum?

Still just one tractor, and one garden tractor/mower.

Would just 1 case of grease and a hand grease gun work .... seems like a lot for just two tractors not to be a a**hole but......

I know it's way overkill. I do that a lot ☺

One thing is for sure, I'm not throwing out a pail of grease after 6 months, just because. Shelf life is 3 to 5 years, unopened. I really don't see how open containers go down to 6 months, unless you are scooping out the grease with a sandy wet shovel and you store the pail near a steam boiler.

Good info on lithium vs calcium carbonate grease though. Lithium seems to have twice the shelf life, no matter where you start. Another advantage, besides pumpability.

I use my loader primarily for snow removal and grease EVERY time I use it. So I grease the loader about every 3+/- hours. Sure my loader arms are slobbering grease and I may be wasting it, but grease is way cheaper than loader pins and bushings and not as hard to remove.
I've got a battery operated cartridge gun. I get the grease a case of 10 tubes at a time.
