Also, if the fence doesn't have a solid footing around the base the dog will simply dig under it. But hopefully it will work out.

A dog wearing a shock collar, will dig under a buried shock fence wire?

I don't like the idea of not killing an animal, just wounding it. A simple wound may cost several hundred$ for a vet to treat. If I pull the trigger when aimed at a animal, I intend to kill it. If I'm not intending to kill, I shoot in the air. Just wounding the neighbor's dog is just nasty.

I would strongly suggest putting a bullet into the ground rather than into the air. If it goes into the ground you know where it went. If you put it into the air, you have no idea where it went.

One of the problems is that in a lot of places the country ain't the country no more, everybody buys 5 acres and thinks it gives them free rights to the rest of the community , I have hunting dogs but I keep them in a concrete kennel with a roof and the only time I have ever shot someone else's dog was when they were attacking livestock , most country people in these parts have respect for their neighbors and most things can be settled with a front porch discussion, like men. From a lot of the comments on here I am glad I don't have some of you folks for neighbors, ya'll would run out of bullets around here killing up people's stuff, quite a few people still coon hunt and run fox and cat so it's not uncommon for a dog to stroll thru but I'm not shooting them because next week after a storm rolls through at night and a tree falls down on my fence one of my cows might be in their front yard eating flowers and I'm planning on them being as understanding as I have been.
Agreed, I have no problem with the neighbors dogs wandering through as long as they leave the livestock alone.

Our dog stays with us, she's not allowed to go wandering by herself. So far, she hasn't showed any real interest in chasing or injuring the chickens, just some curiosity as to what in the world they are.
If we are outside, she's usually with us she likes being outside and going for a walk out back.

I was referring to the 6ft high steel fence. Not sure he is going to use a shock collar since it won't range over 10 acres?

Maybe I'm confused at your question??

In regards to a shock collar and shock fence wire, no, the dog will not dig under it.

I've lived my whole life like you just described. I totally agree with everything you said.

It simply doesn't apply in this case. The OP's situation wasn't a hunting dog trying to find it's way back home.

I wasn't referring to the OP and his situation, just some of the other trigger happy folks comments that you would guess were country/farm people.

Wow, a 6ft high fence around 10 acres!!!! That's a very expensive dog!!!!

Hope it works out.

I'm guessing it is 10 acres but I could easily be off. He has 150 to 200 yards along the road. I can't tell how far back it goes but it is well past the house. It had to be serious money. metal pipe for poles and it is stretched tight. Had it done by a professional fencer. He jokes he is ready for the zombie apocalypse. It has worked well but he has to have at least 10 large in that fence.

Just to be clear. I have given the neighbor's aggressive dog multiple passes. I know his dogs mean a lot to him and otherwise he is a good neighbor. I get strays and roamers crossing my path several times a year. Usually they aren't aggressive, just pass through and are never seen again. I almost took one home, big like a golden but red like an Irish setter. Good dog. I was hunting deer that day and he stayed by me about an hour before moving on.

Another roamer story. Trail cameras had been picking up a big white dog, looked to be a white Cane Corso (Is there such a thing?). Big dog, easy 120 pounds. I'm in the woods one day and I see him coming. I hold still and he was so big that I pulled just to have it ready. I was steeling myself for what I feared would be a nasty encounter. He finally noticed me about 20 yards away. He froze and stared. I didn't move . Suddenly he turned and bolted away. Probably a good dog but that size was scary.

Talking about people moving from the city and thinking they can do what they want... I was in the right place at the right time for a change and got a really good deal on a 10x10 foot free standing chain link kennel. I don't know exactly what the story was, but they had moved up from Massachusetts and didn't think that people would mind listening to their golden retriever bark all day long.
I always had planned to have a kennel attached to the house so that the dog could go in and out at will... the first year I ended up keeping turkeys in it, the following year it housed my chickens, and now it's not really doing anything except temporary space for poultry when I need it.

I shot a stray once, it still haunts me a little. It was a stray and near death, ribs really showing. It acted a little crazy too. My kids were fairly young at the time and we have cats. I wouldn’t shoot a dog except as a last resort.
