I'm not a gun toting extremist. If your dog comes on my property and barks at or growls at me with aggression it will get shot. Good thing Boston is a long ways from Missouri huh. :D

Yes ..good thing.

Time to throttle it back a bit guys... might get a cool black banner like some other threads if it goes much further...

As I said in my earlier post, each situation is unique, and rules and reactions that apply to one may or may not apply to another.

How many of our tame rabbits do we let the neighbors dog kill after breaking/tearing it's way into the rabbit pen before it's ok to dispatch the dog?

Old farmer came by last year looking for his cows...told him I saw them on my back forty...but they moved along.

He told me to shoot the big red one if I saw him again. Said it was nothing but trouble.

Like what am I suppose to do after that? Eat it or bury it? Both are more work for me.

We have a law here in Missouri, any cattle on your property can be rounded up and taken to the sale barn. You can call one of the cattle hauler truck operators to come and get them and take them in for sale. Even a rangy old cow is worth some money. They sell in the "canner and cutter" class of animal. They go into processed meat.

I hate to admit, but my last dog would roam while we were working; but we were always on client’s land. Still, if she had gotten into somebody’s chickens or chased their horse, I would have blamed myself if somebody protected their property. Not that I would be happy about it... if I ever have another dog like her there will be an E-collar in her life.

Yep. And the good Cattle Ranchers sell that ornery one that is always getting out.

Yep, it is just being "neighborly". Take care of the problems before someone else has to. People that own any kind of animal that is causing another person problems should take care of the problem themselves. But many don't.

I remember when I was a kid visiting my uncle in Colorado they had open range laws. If you didn't want cattle on your property, you had to fence them off your property. Just showing how times have changed. My dog would keep cows off my property.

Well said. Expands on Richard's comment, which is also true.

Re: free range cattle... I wonder if the people who pay high dollar for free range chicken eggs would also pay high dollar for free range cow milk? *grin*

That is Not a half bad idea. It is right up there with coffee-mates "triple churned" advertisement. You take a totally non dairy creamer then you talk about "churning" it 3 times? never have figured that one out.
