What dumb thing did you do today?

I have a whole bunch of spray cans that have plugged up. Hate wasting paint. So I figured I'd just take a "Church Key" can opener and punch a little hole in the bottom, to drain out the paint: You do not want to do this. :)

 Dang.

I spray my nozzles empty by spraying with the can up side down. But every once in a while I still have a plugged nozzle. This is why you save your old nozzles. It's pretty easy to pull the old nozzle out and find a matching one and use it instead. I've also washed them out with brake clean. But I'm with you on not wanting to waste paint. Especially when your on a project and it's your last can and a new can is a minimum of a 40 minute round trip.

OMG... How big was the mess?

I do the exact same thing, the saving of nozzles that work. Never know when you will need one.

Dumb? Last week I had a ladder slide out from under me while painting my barn, and dumped a gallon of red siding stain (also fell on my azz, still hurts a week later). I would have had just enough to finish the job, but I lost about 1/2 gallon so there was no way I could finish after that. OK, call the paint store, arrange for curbside pickup and got another gallon.

The next day a different ladder slid sideways along the wall and I dumped that whole new gallon (managed to avoid falling though). Call the paint store and get *two* gallons so I have extra. Finished the job without further incident but that was about $90 in wasted paint, and the ground next to my barn looks like there was a chainsaw massacre. In retrospect I should not carry full gallons with me up on a ladder.

Your post gave me a good laugh, I guess because I have been there in different ways over the years.

But in retrospect, I think you should have learned the importance of tying off your ladders so they cannot slip or slide sideways! :drink:
