I also carry a Taurus Judge Defender loaded to fire when outside:

first 2 rounds of "Lightfield's" 2 1/2" .410 Home Defense Rubber Buckshot,

and then 3 rounds of Winchester's 225gr Bonded JHP PDX1 Personal Protection 45 Long Colt.

Also a second weapon on the tractor, a 12ga. Mossberg Pump "Shockwave" firearm loaded with Winchester's 2 1/2" 12ga 1oz Rifled Slug/00 Buck (3 Pellets) Buffered Shot for when the S.H.F. moment.

Those offended by this, sorry, but I can supply you folks with a good pair of tennis shoes soaked in fresh bacon grease, and oh ya, feel free to walk around Montana in your new shoes...

KC

The Shockwave is an interesting gun. I have thought about a 20 gauge for a tractor gun. Main use would be snakes. How has it worked for you?

I used to get coon hunters with their dogs on my property behind my house at night. Let off a quick 20 or 30 rounds (in a safe direction of course) and generally speaking, they'll never be back. The reality is in my area, peoeple shoot at all times during the day and night.

The assumption is when you're on private property and you didn't ask permission to be on that property, expect a not so warm welcome. You need to plan your hunt accordingly IMO, particularly when a group of dogs are barking.

My neighbor hunts on my land. He asked me. Ironically enough, we have a pretty good relationship.

When we first moved in in 2011 we'd get ATV's running up the ROW behind the house day and night, even though it was fenced off at either end. Loud as heck and causing a lot of erosion.
In Mississippi all land is "no trespassing".
I took to "target practicing" across the ROW. At random times, not if I KNEW someone was there. After a few months no more ATV traffic.
Note that almost everyone around me is firing off shots before and during hunting season, so my use was not uncommon.

Isn't there a device that will send out a high-frequency noise (which only dogs can hear) when it detects a bark? It's supposed to annoy the heck out of them and gradually they learn that it happens when they bark and they stop barking for no reason. I think one of my neighbors used that successfully to solve a dog barking problem when we lived in town. You would only turn it on when you are down at your barn, so that they are associating it and learn to not bark at you (or if you really want to temper them, leave it on all the time I suppose).

I've a "dog whistle" app that produces high frequency tones.
Had a neighbor across the street that kept some BIG dogs and for some reason the dogs would start constantly barking around 10pm and often continue until 1 or 2 am. So loud that we could here it over the television. A complaint to the neighbor just got "dogs will be dogs". I noticed that the neighbors rarely got up before noon and stayed up late.
The dogs would be quiet most of the day.

I got the app and started firing it off when I walked down to my shed, often at dawn but also frequently during the day. Dogs would start barking, neighbor would come out and yell at them to shut up. After a while they stopped barking at night. I think I just tired them out.

So, what, a DOZEN or more "virus threads" get shut down.

But somehow, THIS shizzle thread is left running?

I feel saddened somehow.

???? Sometimes guns are necessary, think like... Gunsmoke; some crawl, some have four legs, and some have two legs. Killing is only the last solution, and sometimes the only answer. I gave up hunting 30 years ago because I can go to the grocery store instead.

I gave up going to the grocery store because I can hunt, and have room enough to raise my pigs and poultry. Not to say that either way is right or wrong, just pointing out the difference of opinion. I carry a handgun for three months in the fall when we can shoot grouse, during our November deer season I swap my Mark II for my .357. I really do consider it to be going to the grocery store.

I purchased the Shockwave when they first came out, specifically for the tractor because of it's short overall length and it's ability to stop the threat 4 legged or 2 legged.

It's a handful, so I added a SB Tactical pistol stabilizing brace to help me hold on to it.

I am currently waiting on my new upgrades for the Shockwave, a Crimson Trace LS-250G Lasersaddle/Green Laser (Monday), and a Streamlight TL-Racker Shotgun Forend Light.

I also fire rubber buckshot and rubber ball ammunition out of it.

Aguila has a 12ga "Minishell" which are 1 3/4" long that requires an adapter for loading these shorter shells, I have some but have not installed the adapter and fired these rounds yet.

Mossberg also makes a Shockwave in 20ga and 410 calibers.

I would guess that 85-90% of the time, I use the Judge to haze a black bear with success except for 1 time (before the Shockwave) I had to follow up with a 12ga shotgun.

As I said before, glad you aren't my neighbor. You certainly don't fit the description of country folks here in Missouri.

Nor here in Florida, and agreed glad he's not my neighbor.
