Because it will drive any size nail old or new,

SR

As long as the nail head fit's into the nailer, with screw shank pole barn nails that are 5" or longer I'll get a nail every now and then (out of the same box) where the head won't fit.

Just set them aside, and then one spin on the bench grinder and you are golden! lol

I framed my entire 27x44 Nova Scotia Summer home with hemlock.
It was not easy hauling the green 2x10x14 floor joists around, and I needed help for the 2x10x18 rafters.
I was 65 then.
Wonderfully strong lumber though.

Your right, seems like hemlock gains strength when it dries and does get lighter at the same time but then harder to nail. And you did well lifting those green floor joist by yourself, probably your back was getting sore putting those up, least you got help on the bigger ones. I bet if you'd had a piece of pine the same size it would feel like styrofoam, 2x6x16 of green hemlock is all I can lift.

I have a pneumatic framer, a battery framer (love it), a finish nailer, brad nailer, and a roofing gun, all pneumatic... oops I guess I lied, I only have 5...

I have a battery framer as well. Very handy, feels just like an air nailer and drives just as good. 2 nails per second which is faster than I nail.

Just be aware that square filing is much less "forgiving" than round filing. With round filing, you can get away with the angles being off a bit without taking a serious performance hit. Square filing is much more particular. As I believe Skeans already pointed out, geting thngs properly aligned in the corner is critical to getting good performance out of the chain.

The easy way to try it out is to just buy a loop of square filed chain. If you end up liking it, you can try resharpening it square. If it turns out to be too much hassle to maintain, you can just file it with a round file as you would normally. THere is nothing different about the chain itself. It's just a regular full-chisel chain that filed/ground with different equipment.
Yeah I dont think I dare to to get into that yet, the only way I'd run square sharpen chains is if I had the sharpener, I dont like filing to begin with I was just impressed by the technique and skill that guy had on square sharpening by hand.

Add a palm nailer to the mix. You don't need it a lot but when you do, it's the only thing that works.

I've had my eye on one for a while now, sure does look handy

Well lets see, according to my log weight calculator an Eastern hemlock log 16 feet long, 14" small end and 16" large end weighs 812 pounds, a Loblolly log of the same size weighs 1011 pounds so you might rethink your Styrofoam comment.

SO much water in pines..

Mine says E. Hem - 981, Lobolly - 1041. within 5% so close. All calculators aren't the same I guess. The one I use is green logs.

The density's it uses is 51 for E.H. and 53 for Lob. 4% difference.
