Rear Axle Oil Change Ford 445 A

I had a major screw up and accidently drained my rear axle oil by pulling the PTO shaft out not realizing all the oil would come pouring out!!! Oh boy did it ever.

I found the oil fill plug at the top of the rear axle behind the seet. Can anyone tell me how to check the oil level as I am adding oil to the rear axle? Is there a weep plug that I need to remove someware?? Please help, I don't want to over fill the axle.

Level plug is a 1/4" pipe plug with either a male square head or female hex (allen) head. Located on the RH side of the rear axle housing ahead of the RH trumpet housing and above the difflock pedal .

Hey Kevin, the transmission and rear end are combined there is a plug on the right side of the trans most likely a square headplug. This is the fill level and it requires THF. (. Tractor hydraulic fluid) i got the info from my local Massey Ferguson dealer. I have a question, have you had any problems with an axle locking up? Thanks, Kevin M TaterK

Your Massey dealer should stick to a brand he knows about.

Transmission and rear axle are not 'combined' on any 3 cylinder Ford tractors. I think I just figured out why your RH planetary gearset is toast.

What type of oil should be used? Also, where does the transmission and rear end separate?

Use New Holland 134 hydraulic oil or the equivalent. They separate exactly where the two castings are bolted together.
