You don't need heavy duty. Heavy duty = more weight, more wight = less you can lift. Your loader will lift only 2700lb if you have 5510 loader and 2600lb if you have 5520 loader. Minus grapple weight. I think, bellow 500lb grapple would work well, no? Commercial grapples are designed for skid steers with 5000lb + lifting power. My 2 cents.

I'm not much of a grapple expert. I agree though, I don't think I need anything crazy here. I tracked down the HLA model he referenced. here it is. It says "light duty" and is under 500lbs. Sounds like it's just an overpriced light duty grapple, no? I would think the worksaver would do just as well for 1k less. What do you guys think on the grapple width? Lots of logs/brush to pick up, some "clean-ish" areas that I can actually scrape into with, more brush once I'm cutting more things down, etc. Maybe I can delay this decision if I'm not buying the grapple as part of the deal.

I could not agree more. There is ZERO, and I do mean ZERO good reasons to have a commercial rated grapple with any of the below 100hp utility tractors. These guys make one of the best grapples for utility tractors that there is. Nothing with costs like the OP is being given from his dealer.

I personally would get a 66" wide dual lid grapple for the OP's tractor.

Just my :2cents: and good luck to the OP.

That is what I have on my NX5010. There is NO way I'd want smaller. It doesn't cover the wheel base, but yet, plenty large enough to grab anything I could dream of. 60" grapple would just be...meh IMO. No real reason to go with it. You aren't going to fit into any tighter spaces when you're tractor is 12" wider yet.

Looks like the width for the DK is around 63", 66" for the NX. Making me lean toward the 60". I do wonder about having more power for scraping/rooting with a skinnier grapple, maybe 54" though.

Anyone have opinions on the tires? Am I making a mistake by not filling them? I can always fill em later, right? I can throw the backhoe on (it will probably stay on for the most part anyway) for added counterweight when using front implements.

if you're on even slight slopes, have them filled for obvious safety reason or get rear wheel weights, your choice.

Personally I would forget the backhoe, if you need to dig rent a mini-ex. I have a WR Long dual plate grapple, it's a very useful implement for our ranch, I think mine is 66" - a really good size for me. Filling the tires adds a huge measure of stability, you will be much safer carrying a load.

Leaning toward filled tires now. The downside is I'm pretty sure I'll be unable to trailer the tractor myself (with the backhoe attached at least). I guess if I'm generally only concerned with servicing (it's not like I'll be trailering for work or anything), I won't need the backhoe attached anyway so I could detach it beforehand.

John, that's an interesting thought - I've already priced out renting a mini-ex since I'll definitely need one at some point. I guess I keep thinking I'll have small jobs here and there (once the bulk work is done) where I'll need one though, and it would be super convenient to not have to wait until I had enough work to warrant renting. Thanks again for the input everyone.

You will probably find the bucket and box blade will be on the tractor 95% of the time, the other 5% (will vary of course) will be a grapple. Mounting and unmounting the backhoe will probably be a huge PITA.

I would definitely go with loaded tires. Makes grapple work so much easier. Not to mention you don't need anything hanging off the back to get in the way.

You can get them filled later, but then you're stuck with taking the tires off or bringing the entire tractor somewhere. You can probably get it thrown in as a freebie.

cHECK OUT THE MTL AND TOMMAHAWK BRAND GRAPPLES. SEEMS TO BE ALOT OF SATISFIED CUSTOMERS ON HERE. I ALSO AGREE WITH LOADING THE TIRES , DID IT ON TWO OF MY MOST USED TRACTORS AND WAS AMAZED AT HOW MUCH MORE STABLE AND BETTER THE TRACTION WAS. BUDDY BOUGHT A NEW LS TRACTOR AND COMPLAINED ABOUT TRACTION , ITOLD HIM TO LOAD THEM SO HE DID AND WAS VERY HAPPY.
