There's nothing distorted about the numbers. Those are the numbers for the country as a whole. If you want to take pieces of the whole and analyze those, those are fractions of the whole. NY, Michigan, etc... they're all in the same country.

That’s true, but due to the nature of the viruses virility, it spreads wildly in places like NYC and NJ. Cancer or auto accidents, although higher numbers in populated areas, don’t have the contagion spread like this virus, so Corona virus charts like that are heavily weighted by NYC and NNJ.
Cancer and auto accidents are concentrated in populous areas, but not both contagious AND concentrated.
The “ double whammy “ of Corona renders a comparison to auto accidents, cancer or other non contagious causes of death pretty irrelevant

Also, the flu is a well known virus. Weve been dealing with it for 100s of years and a there’s an effective vaccine for last 50+ years. Corona is new and unknown

Flu death irrelevant since there’s a vaccine or “ flu shot “. We know how to deal with the flu (but it still kills a lot of people, but that’s a different subject).
Corona unknown. We don’t know what to do with it in the first weeks and months. Naturally, there’s a wicked death spike in first couple months.

I am close to the mount. I used to pay to use their facilities like the pool.

Good friend of mine played baseball for them a few yrs ago.

Aren’t the highest numbers nationwide (cases and deaths) in the NYC, NJ, MD area? With the most anywhere in NYC?

I just posted MD chart, as of today 680 deaths, 30 in my county. Don’t know how that stacks up with other areas. Most in MD is surrounding DC, and then Baltimore.

DC & Baltimore are very densely populated with a pretty extensive mass transit system. DC a very international city. Baltimore is the ultimate seaport city. Very similar to NYC & NJ, but slightly smaller scale.

The mount is on edge of 2 zip codes, 13 and 9 cases. Most in the county is Frederick city.

Don’t know about MD, but NYC and North Jersey are the epicenters.
I was listening to the radio about a MIT study which found that the New York City Metro Transit system trains, buses and subways may be the single biggest transmission points for the virus.

The NYC subway did the normal thing when adjusting to the lower number of riders. The reduced the number of trains running. ‘Of course, it’s not cost effective to have trains running with only a few people spread out in all the cars, right?’

So fewer trains means the essential employees going to work on the subway all had to cram into the available cars. No way to spread out and so the subway wound up being a hot bed of spreading CV. Their model of cost efficiency.
