Green....I'm just wondering if it is the color of money that is deciding what products are presented for the public to watch.

Didn't he explain that the color of money is what it takes to make videos? This isn't a mystery, he's doing what's best for him and his family. I'm pretty sure he will honestly talk about the differences between is Kubota and the RKs vs the Deere, just like he did when he got the RKs and talked about how the Kubota compared. There's nothing wrong with making money.

No, nothing wrong with money. It comes with a price though. All the time and effort.....is it worth it? It sounds like Mike would like to just do projects for himself for once without all the other BS. I don't blame him.

I know it takes time to make the videos, but if it's a money making venture and you have to work at it, then it's a job and that's the way it's supposed to happen. Just like any other job.

If someone is doing it for fun and doesn't care about money, then it's a hobby, and they won't care about the time they have to put into it and they won't expect or need to be paid.

I think the whole Youtube thing has pushed some people into the gray area between job and hobby. They want you to think they are doing it for fun and because they enjoy it and want to help other people, but then they imply that it takes time/work to make videos and they expect to be paid. OK, how about just deciding whether it's a job or a hobby and not try to mix up the two. I really feel like the money has made some people lose sight of who they are.

Not speaking about Mike specifically here, just general comments about the state of YouTubers in general. Saying they need to make money to do the videos gets zero sympathy from me.

Believe it not I used to feel sort of the same way as you, Im sure you have heard the expression "find something you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life?" I actually used to think that was BS, I was always the guy that said go to work, make the money then take that money provide for your family and whats left use for your hobbies or whatever. That all changed after our YouTube channel started to grow. Im a believer now, I actually found something I love to do, and make additional income. I couldn't believe it but it's true. If I didn't love doing it I sure wouldn't spend all the time I do working on it, I have a job, a good job. There are other really good things that has come from all this, we have met hundreds, maybe even a 1000 people in person at meet ups the last couple years wonderful people with the same interests from all walks of life. I say there is absolutely nothing wrong turning a hobby into a business, how could anyone fault someone for doing that? Maybe someone is a hobby photographer then starts eventually starts doing some wedding shoot? Good for them, Someone with a good voice and loves to sing may eventually get a couple paid gigs and more, I say congrats. Could be anything.

YouTube is a win, win, win in my opinion, 1. I love doing it, and it makes my family additional income, 2. The companies we work with get awesome exposure for their products in real world situations, and 3. It doesn't cost anyone that watches our channel a penny, nothing zip zilch to watch our videos. Win, Win, Win

I think you set a very good example and that is the way it should all come together. I have a similar situation for my technology business (2nd job) and probably the best thing about it is that I can choose what to do or not to do. There never has to be any negative aspect of it if that's the way I want it to be (doing taxes, business license paperwork, etc... are necessary exceptions). Occasionally I will have to deal with a customer that is negative but it's rare and usually I can step into their shoes and see how to make them feel better.

YouTube, like many other aspects of technology and social media, will evolve and may someday fade away. I think it's a good idea to have a long term vision and be ready to transition if things change. That could be a #4 on your list, be flexible and adapt, or be ready to walk away. From what I see of some of the younger folks with big YouTube channels, they will be in trouble if they ever have to get an old fashioned career. Some reality TV stars found this out the hard way. There was one show we watched in the early 2000s where it seemed the folks had everything and made great money. Now they are divorced and the guy barely makes ends meet as a DJ....

I do a lot of watching youtube for info on implements, on recent decision on tractor and so forth. However I like to know the relationship and take it into consideration on them. Messicks video know full well they sell Kubota's and are presenting Kubota as positive as possible. (Let me be clear I believe they present them honestly.) The videos such as Mike's since it is the topic and being clear here not saying he is not totally honest is all aspects so don't twist me: I take comments like his with the old grain of salt. If he is a tractor mechanic or such not aware of it.

Lets step to guns if I may for the price is lot less than tractors: those who buy the gun they are testing from off a shelf I respect their comments much more than those who get the gun free from the company.

Being totally and being safe here for some like to twist....I am not implying in any manner that Mike nor Messicks are not 100% honest. Have enjoyed both. In my recent tractor hunt Messicks videos helped me a lot. Shame they did not benefit from it.

I have to admit, I have paid more attention to the videos the last few days as I anxiously await to see what new tractor(s) show up at the homestead. Watching all the videos on the RK models and having them to compare to whatever models come to their place will be exciting.

I'm glad Mike takes the time to share his experience and knowledge with others. Plus, he always does it in such a positive way. Nothing seems to ever get him down. I hope to be that content some day that I can just roll with everything.

Watched one of latest videos last night. Mike said it will not be RKs again nor will it be the Bobcat line. I have watched ODWTM for 4 years and have seen it grow greatly. Like he said ...its a business now for them for which i wish them success. Its alot of work doing all those videos, working full time then coming home to do work at their property. I am leaning to him getting LS/New Holland tractors, 2nd choice would be Branson.

I've been saying that for a couple years now. YT is a house of cards for young people who see other young people making a living and want to shun a traditional path to be their own boss. There's a whole slew of ebeggars that bought into the van life or mobile hobo RV thing. More try it out and it waters every channel down a little more. They were told by others sell your house and all your possessions and live in a van, poop in a bucket, live on BLM/Gov land out west or WM parking lots Well, that isn't working out so well for them now in the current situation. The YT ad revenue dries up and now they are begging for everyone to join their Patreon. Of course they didn't think about that when they bought the 5th drone, motorcycle, 60" TV.
