Believe it not I used to feel sort of the same way as you, Im sure you have heard the expression "find something you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life?" I actually used to think that was BS, I was always the guy that said go to work, make the money then take that money provide for your family and whats left use for your hobbies or whatever. That all changed after our YouTube channel started to grow. Im a believer now, I actually found something I love to do, and make additional income. I couldn't believe it but it's true. If I didn't love doing it I sure wouldn't spend all the time I do working on it, I have a job, a good job. There are other really good things that has come from all this, we have met hundreds, maybe even a 1000 people in person at meet ups the last couple years wonderful people with the same interests from all walks of life. I say there is absolutely nothing wrong turning a hobby into a business, how could anyone fault someone for doing that? Maybe someone is a hobby photographer then starts eventually starts doing some wedding shoot? Good for them, Someone with a good voice and loves to sing may eventually get a couple paid gigs and more, I say congrats. Could be anything.
YouTube is a win, win, win in my opinion, 1. I love doing it, and it makes my family additional income, 2. The companies we work with get awesome exposure for their products in real world situations, and 3. It doesn't cost anyone that watches our channel a penny, nothing zip zilch to watch our videos. Win, Win, Win
