I think you chose your words to paint this in a particular way, but other folks have done a good job steering it back to reality. .....

I love my guns but there are a lot of dumb and irresponsible gun owners in my part of VA. The reckless things they do to endanger themselves and others boggles my mind. They think the 2nd amendment entitles them to abuse the very right it grants them. They will end up ruining it for the rest of us. Stupidity and entitlement are more powerful forces than most liberal anti-gun movements.

Aside from a couple aspects that are mere quibbles, I am fine with the laws. I support more rigorous background checks and I like the red flag law (which has layers of approvals, so it isn't something normal people should worry about). Some of these laws are simply putting us in parity with most other states and/or rolling the laws back to what they were 15-20 years ago.

I was concerned about the high-capacity magazine proposed law, but that didn't pass. Even some Democrats voted against that one.

So does that mean because theres a few people who do stupid things with guns, we need to make laws that restrict the 98% who dont do stupid things?
Sounds like the Virginia government is punishing the vast majority of the good people with overly restrictive laws rather than taking the time to go after the few bad people.

If the speed limit on I-95 is 70MPH and a few people get caught going 100MPH, should Ralphy lower the speed limit to 35MPH for everyone?

My sister and brother in law (active military-works in the Pentagon for Army intelligence) live in Fairfax and give me a real good idea of what’s going on. They’re both college educated, very intelligent, informed people and they don’t like what is going on.
Their word and my own research is good enough for me.

I think theres enough information available for me that I don’t have to live in a different state to know what’s going on there :laughing:

I don't have an issue with universal background checks for non-family firearm transfers. I also agree with some sort of highly controlled and regulated "red flag" provision (meaning not subject to abuse). However, that's as far as I go with any additional laws.

I'm curious of the Virginia law limiting handgun purchases to one a month and not sure of it's intent. I'll also guarantee the assault weapon and magazine restrictions that were originally proposed, comes back around and gets reintroduced for a vote and passes after the dust settles.

I am curious how many murderers, mass or otherwise actually obtained their firearms legally.

What could be better for the politicians? Appear like they are doing something about gun crime, while taking away rights for the many. I don't see how that is going to change any time soon.

Wouldn't you rather have a legal document that says you sold gun with serial number 12345 to joe smith on 01/02/2020 VS the cops coming to your house asking where the gun is and you can't tell them?

And, on that same note, wouldn't you rather find out at a gun dealer while they're doing a background check on joe smith, that he's got a criminal record and is legally not allowed to own a firearm before you sell it to him?

Or would you rather just say, I don't know anything about joe smith, but he has cash, so here you go.

We had a motor vehicle sold, I took down all information from buyer. Photo ID included. Had proper paper work too.

Cops come to the house one night, months later. Seems car found in a bad spot with bad stuff in it. Guess buyer never registered it.

Guess who had all the interesting paper work.
