Which is exactly what the end game is....Registry = database = ultimate confiscation. Slippery slope.

If you take an oath to uphold the U.S. constitution and start passing laws to restrict gun ownership. you should be hung in the streets by your gonads !

The second amendment is the only amendment with that wording...
Let that sink in !

That implies that absolutely no one should be prevented from possessing a firearm for any reason.

That opens the doors for the mentally disturbed, drug addicts, alcoholics, people with violent criminal history, etc....

So those are all ok, correct?

Actually, the whole amendment reads:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Good luck getting the true intention out of that, it's just not written clearly enough. The legal system generally goes with the "collective rights" interpretation that focuses on "the people" (= states) and not individuals. It should have been written more clearly either way.

There's another weird aspect, where "keep and bear" doesn't imply anything about "procure". Which means restrictions on gun manufacturers, gun retailers, gun dealers, private sales, etc... can and have been enacted. Do they infringe on the 2nd amendment? Not technically. In practice, they infringe on our ability to live by the 2nd amendment though.

I am pro 2nd amendment, but cripes, it was just not written well or thoroughly. No wonder it's a constant debate. Blame the founding fathers.

It's a tradition. I blame my parents and my kids blame me.

Me too. If you pass, here you go, nice doing business with you. You can have as many firearms as you like. (I own more than one myself).

However, if you start displaying signs of mental instability, violence towards others, etc... we, as a society, are gonna investigate, and, if necessary, suspend your right to possess said firearms until it's proven you're of sound mind to accept the responsibility of possession.

Crimes? Well thats where the slope gets slippery again.
I know a few “ criminals “ :laughing: and I trust them a lot more than some people with no record.
Depends on crime and circumstances. Now if we have “ white robe Ralph “ appointing the people who decide if you can keep your gun, we know in almost every case, they will confiscate. :laughing:

If we go back to the first few pages of this thread, we see many attempts to nibble around the edges of 2nd amendment rights.

Now heres something that’s VERY important to remember about the 2nd amendment. In fact, its the MOST important thing to remember. The 2nd amendment actually protects and insures the 1ST amendment!!
Remove 2nd amendment and youll lose your 1ST amendment rights along with it.

I have a friend like that. Love him like a brother, but don't want him anywhere near my family. He's mentally unstable, past criminal record, and has violent tendencies. No guns for you, bud. Sorry. But that's the way it's gotta be.

The guy I know was a good framing carpenter that worked for me. He was in a bad marriage and his wife would punch and kick him for years. She was a drunk loser. Well one day he had enough, picked her up and threw her down. He did time for it and they took his gun.
Is that fair?
Where does he petition to get his gun back?
Would “ white robe Ralph “ ever give him his gun back?
