Rant on shipping

My Amazon shipments have gone from 1 week to over 1 month. The order that was supposed to be here last Friday isn't here yet and the tracking status says "sorry it's delayed". Tracking also shows it's at their terminal about 30 miles away so it should be here tomorrow.

Our Amazon shipments have come several days early for the last month or so.

So..... how does 1-2 day shipping come several days early?

Like many others I order a lot of stuff online. I used to order a lot of fishing stuff mail order back in the late '50's.
Up until about the last few years if I was told a package had "shipped" then that meant the item was in the shippers control (USPS, FedEx etc.).
Now that seems to have been redefined to "we are thinking of shipping you what you ordered" by many non-Amazon firms.
I'll order something online and a few hours later get an email "YOUR PACKAGE HAS SHIPPED". Then I go to the appropriate web sites and see: follow the links further and see at UPS.

I had a recent package that took a week from the first email until I got a FedEx message that it arrived at their facility. But the vendor insisted it had "shipped". And this was happening pre-Covid19.

When did "shipped" come to mean "we entered your address"?

Is this just another example of numbers manipulation so vendors can say "all items shipped within X hours" while it sits in their warehouse (or is being ordered from Timbukto)?

When you ordered the product online, when did they say that you would get it?

If you didn't get the product ontime per the time the seller said you would get it, you're rant isn't here, but with the seller of the product.

If something is important enough to buy for you to have, go out and buy it. I've had my own horror stories that didn't get to me when the seller said I would have it. Mistakes get made with the more hands involved.

As far as being notified that a product has shipped, I learned at least last year that all that means is that a print lable has been printed and there is a good chance the product hasn't even been picked up yet.

Well I just had an interesting shipment from Indiana to New York, ordered a clutch shaft for a Farmall H,
seller shipped it in a decent box USPS shipment was quite fast for them I got the box in three days.
Just one little minor problem a box containing a seven pound splined steel shaft some how the shaft got dumped out of the box,
and they retaped the box with no shaft got an empty box with bubble wrap and the guys business card.
Contacted the post office and the guy I bought it from, he had another shaft and got it sent out after a few days,
I'll be danged if the second box didn't have considerable damage but at least the shaft was still in the box.

I buy a lot of stuff off eBay. Lately I have been getting sellers claim the order was shipped then come back days later saying it was out of stock. They charge my Paypal as soon as I place the order. Some of them have the nerve to claim I canceled the order. During the whole process they will have my money for 8 to 10 days and I won't have what I ordered. Then I have to start shopping for the item again.
I had this exact thing happen today. Order said it was shipped a week ago, then today they say that shipping company can't fulfill the order. Like you, I lost two weeks on the project. Kinda stinks

What will we do after Amazon has driven all the small businesses into bankruptcy and they are the only option left? I am making an effort to limit Amazon spending while buying more from the little guy.

Last year I found a great price on a Buck Vantage to replace the knife which I had lost. I received a USPS tracking number, then they started their “on the way to the next facility” mumbo jumbo. The delivery date past, with no change. Then I got Amazon’s “we don’t know where your package is...”
Eventually they refunded my money. I can’tsay for sure but suspect that between when the label was made and it went to the PO somebody said “Hey, we’re selling these for less than our cost” and my package never left the warehouse.

Perhaps I'm the only one who has never ordered a single item from Amazon?

I do also, but sometimes get tired of the shenanigans of “buying local”. Loyalty should go both ways. Besides, why should I drive 50 miles to shop, only to hear “we’ll order that, it will be in next week.” I can do that without driving 100 miles round trip... twice.
