Tracking the Asian Giant 'Murder' Hornet: A Deadly Pest Has Reached North America

There are still a few scattered chestnut stands around. I'm not sure if they're resistant, or just isolated enough that they haven't been exposed to the blight. My employer managed a tract of land in Central Maine which has one of the largest known stands remaining. It was sold to a conservation group, which is probably the best use for it. I only wish that I had taken a walk into it before it was sold.
Dutch Elm disease is another one; what was once a stately tree is reduced to small trees which get diseased and die.

There have been a lot of things brought from other countries over the years; earthworms, apple trees, hogs, cattle. Horses were extinct for thousands of years before the Europeans brought them across again.

The Europeans brought honeybees with them too.

The honeybees will suffer some losses, but they will and already have, begun to adapt to the newest Asian pest.

I wonder if you could safely kill these by sniping them with a good pellet gun ? If so, how about they put a bounty on them ?

Not a good idea to intimidate a creature that can fly 20 MPH, kill a human with one sting, and their 1/4 inch stingers can penetrate a bee protection suit! :bumblebee:

Wasn't there something about the Asian carp invading our waterways also.? Threatening our fresh water fish.

The fact of the matter is, there are a multitude of exotics in this country that have proven harmful. There are also a lot of beneficial exotics also...like the honey bee. Europe has benefited from American exotics also, like the potato, tomato, and...uh..tobacco...and then we presented Australia with the rabbit...
