I'm not convinced we are even close to the point where machines design and build machines. So, there will be jobs above minimum wage for awhile, and that the competition for the better jobs will increase. I also believe that it will further separate the populace into the "haves" and "have nots".
And yes, I agree that as more automation comes into play, fewer people will have menial jobs, meaning more people will be unemployed, and the have-have not issue will get larger.

There seems to be some misconception or misunderstanding of AI and its capabilities and possibilities...robotic automation etc. is just a modicum of what AI will be doing...eventually it will change a huge part (majority) of the workforce...not just in mechanical processes etc. it is really not about "machines building machines"...AI will be so much more than machines replacing humans...
In some aspects it will actually create some jobs and at this point we actually can't even predict exactly what some of those jobs might involve...

Nobody said automation was great for the masses. It's great for business. One of a business's greatest expenses is humans. You want as few humans in the manufacturing process as possible. And, as mentioned, humans cause manufacturing defects. You want a product that is consistent. People aren't. Machines are.

I want as few humans possible in my life... I must be a manufacturer...

It will be a sad society indeed that never knows the pleasure of making useful and beautiful things with their own intellect and efforts.

"Technology is the answer!"

What was the question????

My first GF of some forty yers ago travelled ten hours there and back to come spend a few days. She was going stir crazy at home (isolated) in a retirement building and just seperated from her husband of twenty five or so years. We were supposed to clean the raccoon mess in the barn but she cleaned my house for days and did an awesome job. Weird Times for sure.

Applied for my relief money a week ago and got a cheque this week. Reminds me of a huge manure spreader, all this money being flung out for the asking!

I am sure enjoying the lack of traffic on the roads... especially rush hour. There isn't one now.

Traffic here in Branson and 65 Hwy to Springfield and in Springfield all seem about the same as normal here. Of course the State is "partially open". Restuarants are still take out pickup only, and wal mart limits the number of people inside, but other than that, things seem fairly normal here. If there is any reduction in traffic, I sure didn't see it.
