First Tractor Purchase - What do you think of the Kubota MX5100 HST?

Ya, that way you don't put the on the defensive. You are acknowledging that their price is in the ballpark. On they other hand, they want to sell. You are saying "I am the real deal" I have cash in hand, and this can all be over.

I think the price is in line. I would go in with the strategy spelled out above. Make it easier on the seller. I have a MX5200 and it along with my Ford 2120 are my favorite tractors. My R4's on the M are loaded with RimGuard and even without a rear attachment, I can do a good amount of loader work.

I think this is a pretty fair deal, a couple things.

If you want to buy it at 40k, maybe offer 38 to start. And #2: A tractor with 100 hours in that amount of time doesn't scare me, but I'd be prepared to do a full service on it. Oils just sitting there need to be replaced, rubber bushings and hoses not used might be showing a little cracking and need to be replaced....

Maybe he stored it in a barn and the rubbers all good, but you never know. I think if you offer 38-40 and come out saving 2-5k over his price, you are in real good shape.

Another way to look at it is, YOU can get this deal and be done with this process, just the same as him. Sometimes not saving $500 on top seems bad, but how much is your time worth? How long will you research every little implement and detail and go back and forth in the future.... It could all be over now with this one purchase.

Hello, first post and looking for my first tractor. Have 22 acres. 2/3 wooded and 1/3 open. Lots of trees and hilly. I've got a 60" zero turn for the finish cutting, but want a bush hog for the fields I let grow.

I found this 2014 Kubota MX5100 HST. It only has 100 hours. One owner. Looks to be very well taken care of. Can't believe only 100 hours on a tractor that old. It also comes with a ton of attachments which is what has drawn me to it. It comes with the following attachments - 72" Woods bush hog, forks, aerator, box scraper, backhoe, front loader large bucket and a HUDSON 5 ton trailer. I really want the backhoe, loader, forks, box scraper and post hole auger. Would sell the trailer and aerator.

Asking price of $45,000 for all of it. There is a part of me that thinks its a fair price for the amount of attachments and tractor, but there is the cheap side of me that feels it is overpriced?

Can anyone give me some help on price of this? Fair? Overpriced? THANKS!

I think the tractor is overpriced. That’s a lot of money. At that price I would buy a smaller kubota tractor and a used mini excavator.

I had a L2501 with loader and backhoe lined up a couple years ago for $25,000. And that was brand new! You could almost buy two of them for the price of that MX.

What all do you plan to do with this machine?

The MX might be twice the tractor to. What you’re really saying is it’s more than you would spend.

Thanks, I think it is fair for what it is. Of course I would prefer to buy it for $35K and not $40K, but I don't want to insult them with a low ball offer based off their asking price. I definitely am not planning on paying 45K. It may be worth it to someone, but to not have a single warranty, it's a lot of money to spend. I could buy a brand new MX5200HST loader and backhoe for $45K plus tax with warranty. Of course I would not be getting all the other attachments that this one comes with and that is what is so appealing to me. The tractor only has 100 hours. Mainly used to bush hog. All the other attachments have barely been used.

I like how you flipped that "YOU can get this deal and be done with this process". That is what has drawn me to this tractor. It has all the stuff I would eventually want and I can get it all at once!

I appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately with the terrain and how I plan on using the tractor I just do not think a smaller 25 or 30 HP will meet my needs. Plus, I don't know where you are shopping for mini excavators but the cheapest ones I have seen are at least 15K to 25K.

Sure I could by a brand new smaller tractor and then buy a used mini excavator, but I don't see how that would be saving too much money and I end up with a smaller tractor.

Thanks for the idea on the wheel weights! Do you load your tires and use wheel weights? Or just use the wheel weights?

Both. Loaded tires and 400lbs of weights. These are great tractors but have no weight in the rear.

Paying $45k for a used MX is nuts. The thing is 6 years old.

For his land, etc he doesn’t need twice the tractor in my opinion. A L4701 would be about the biggest I would want in woods and hills.

Yeah exactly.... $20k for a used excavator and $25k for a NEW Kubota. An excavator can work circles around a TLB.

It all boils down to what you want to do but I don’t understand why you need a 50 hp tractor on hilly tree covered 20 something acres. I have a 38 HP L3830 that runs a 6’ bushhog great. The thing is a beast and it almost too big in woods. One reason I bought a L3301. That way I have two for different applications. Glad you have a zero turn. Smart move.

Hey it’s your money! Just trying to help out. People generally on this site will want you to spend it all! Lol! But believe me if I was gonna buy $45,000 worth of SMALL tractor I would buy new. $45,000 is a lot for a tractor. Heck you can buy a fairly low hour full size back hoe for that much money!

Have you had a company like Barlows quote the equivalent tractor for you new? Don’t go by the online price thing. It’s way high. Generally price is around 12 to 15% less.

Sounds like a pretty good deal on a great turn key package to me. Also sounds like that package size is too big for some people's needs. That's fine. Doesn't mean it's not a great package and a great price however.

You'd be "getting" an almost (100 hrs) brand new tractor with $8-10K in free stuff added to it. If I were the seller and you came at me with a low ball $35-38K offer, I'd be telling you to hit the road and don't come back.

If the package size is too big for your uses, or you just don't have the depth in your pocket to go that deep (not meant for the OP as much as for some of the "commentators"), then I would politely pass up the deal. No need to insult a stranger with a really nice tractor and implements for sale.

Just my 2 cents.
