Steering Knob

I was going to order one on Amazon and most have some rather poor reviews.

Anyone know of a decent quality knob that is not tractor specific. I do not want to piss off my LS and put on a JD or Kubota knob.

The ones at TSC aren't bad. I have one on my other Kubby it's black and chrome and so far (2 years) been just fine. I'm sure it's Chineseium but isn't about everything today? I think it was 8 bucks.

Question = The way the steering is on a Kioti - if you put the knob on at say uper left on the wheel - would it not be in another position after a few turns ? Just like it does no good to straighten the center cap ?
Yes, the position of the knob will move. You get used to it. Still couldn't live without it.🙂🙂

Anyone that grew up in the 50's - 60's in Michigan knows it's called a" Necking Knob" . You put one on your car so that when your girl sat next to you - you could drive with your left hand and put your right arm around her ! Maybe steal a little kiss at the stop light !

Thought those were 'pothole knobs' in Michigan so you had extra control when hitting potholes so you didn't loose control....:D

No in Michigan you have to drive like you would an old tri-cycle type Farmall M with your thumbs out . That way when you hit a pot hole the wheel doesn't spin around and break your thumb .

Good thing that I like a Steering Knob, it is built in on my V417:

So to the fact on a Kioti it would never be in the same place when you went to reach for it = I'm Out !

You need to talk to Paul Short (he was a member here, I don't know anymore) in Newfoundland, Canada, he has suicide knobs for sale.

I put one on my ride-on mower. He was in the Kubota forums mostly.

No tractor or anything else with hydraulic / hydrostatic steering will have the steering wheel wind up in the same place twice. Nature of the system. Has to be a mechanical connection between the steering shaft and the wheels. There isn't any.

Never heard of these called suicide knobs. Know where that came from? I put one on my NX and now don't think I ever touch the steering wheel any more. Can't imagine not having one.🙂🙂

Truckers had them in their big rigs back in the day. I had one on my 56 Chevy back in the 70's. That was one of the the first things I added to my tractor after I got it home.

Had to buy one for the Toolcat:

Being that the wheel is more deeply dished, I knew a person would have to get creative with getting that style to work. I see you added a spacer to get it to work. I will have to figure out something to try in the near future.

Had to do the same thing on the Toro Mower. Used hard rubber here also:

I have this one on my Kioti and am pleased with it.
Any of the autoparts store ones I tried were all designed for a thicker wheel than what my tractor has, and I never could get it tight enough so it didn't flop around. This one fits just right.

As mentioned I believe that term from earlier days when used in non power steering vehicle use. Having a steering wheel snap back (spin with great force) that knob would break thumbs.

This is the one I have.

A spinner knob with power steering is so sweet! Mowing with this thing is real nice, driving around trees and such, it's great. Real nice to have when using the loader or backing up with the backhoe or whatever.

Yes, the position of the knob can move around on the wheel with power steering, but you could nudge it back to where you want it by turning the steering wheel past the turned wheels.

Btw, I dunno why my link points to ebay on this website, it's an amazon link.

Those suicide knobs have been outlawed in most states for vehicles driven on the roads, especially tractor trailers!

Actually quite legal in a road going car or truck too. I call them 'Polish Power Steering Knobs'....
