The pressure washer just makes a mess blows the grease all over the machine at work we clean them by hand washing them , use a putty knife to clean all the grease off around the hyd pistons...

I agree the pressure washer is not the best way to do the entire excavator. I would not do the arm where the grease fittings are. What do you guys use on the tracks area of the machine?

Correct. Shouldn't be anything on the tracks or other undercarriage parts that you would hurt. Except I wouldn't spray directly into a roller. Might get a grease seal
I'm not sure what you mean by 'roller'. is that the round part with teeth that you put gear lube in?

No sir, that's the sprocket. The big one at the front is the idler.
The little ones on the top center and bottom are rollers. You probably have about 4 or 5 bottom rollers, and one on top.

And, to answer your question in the post above that, I don't wash the undercarriage of a track machine. I just use a shovel (preferably a sharp-shooter) to clean out the big chunks. It's going to get dirty again, and probably soon. :D

You should clean it everyday if the dirt/mud packs around the top roller and stops it from turning you will wreck it / flat spot it.....

For the undercarriage on mine I found about a 4' piece of 3/4x31/2" pine laying around and cut about 8"x2" off one corner. Kinda matches the slope on the top of rails and also works good on the blade gussets , doesn't scratch the paint as easily as steel. Back to the original project question, how about a root cellar?
