Common barberry
I didn't know what it was either. So I went here:
Full Key for Plant Identification:
Go Botany
Then I started by choosing the most obvious feature, yellow flowers and leaf shape. It narrowed it down to about 100 choices, with pictures, and that one popped right out as the same.![]()
If you enjoy it, it's a flowering shrub.
If you hate it, it's a noxious invasive species.
Draw your lines and pick your reasons yay or nay. :dance1:
One of those "beauty is in the eye..." deals, eh? I'll ask the "boss."
Ya! I distinctly remember my mom being quite upset with my dad after he "cut down some weeds".
That was 50 years ago and I never forgot that lesson. Thanks for taking one for the team, dad.![]()

A neighbor of mine had a pretty good stand of Maximilian sunflowers growing in his fence line. I was eyeballing it and thought that in another couple of weeks or so the seed would be ready for me to swipe some. And then he went and sprayed it. So then I was still going to grab some of the seed heads and see if by chance they would by accident germinate. Then he had someone come in with a brush cutter and down it all. Next time I talk to him I'll have to let him know that those seeds sell for up to $70 a pound!
