I do not really mind the rocker pedal on my Kubotas.

But when I got the first Kubota, the problem I had was with my Ford E350 van. I was using the tractor a lot and every time I needed to back the van up, I kept kicking the floor behind my foot, instead of shifting into reverse and pushing the gas! :eek:

After 18 years I do not think I would like having two directional pedals.

I did get over the issue with the van...:D

Never operated a two pedal HST design and don’t find the rocker peddle that comfortable to use, but it is far superior, IMO, to the single (clutch) pedal with shift knob between the legs.

I have used all types (sometimes in the same day) and get used to all of them. One thing I have noticed on this site is that a lot of people who complain about treadles are trying to use the treadle as a "rocker" with their foot sitting on it the same way the whole time. That is not how the treadle on the B and L (not Grand L) models is setup. It's intended to work as follows:

1) for forward, your heel is on the floor and your toe is pressing the forward part of the treadle.
2) for reverse, pivot back at the knee so that your toe is on the floor and your heel is pressing the rear part of the treadle.

Basically, you pivot at the knee to move your heel and toe into proper position so that one is the pivot and the other presses down.

I have tried to operate these treadles the wrong way, as some people claim to do, and can't imagine for the life of me how that would even make sense.

Note, other Kubotas, like the Grand L, have a different arrangement that does allow the foot to remain stationary on the treadle, like a rocker.

I've had both, a 2 pedal and now the rocker. At first I didn't like the rocker but have gotten use to it. I'm not sure I now prefer either setup, maybe the rocker because it is easier to swivel the seat to the right, while looking out the back and use my left foot on the rocker. I do this quite a bit when using my rear facing snowblower or when lining up implements with the 3PTH. I initially tried using it the wrong way, ie, leaving my foot on the pedal and trying to rock my foot back to go backwards but found that very uncomfortable and then switched to using the toe of my right foot to operate the forward and reverse functions by shifting my foot back or forwards. This works well. Two things I have done on the 2 pedal system that I have not done on this is; 1) push the wrong pedal and 2) push both at the same time.

I have not tried the method S219 suggested and will give a it a go later.

You could install a board between the heel and toe and just slide your foot forward or back. Wouldn’t have to lift your foot.
Also you might be able to rig up a hand control

People do what they have to do, so I get that.

That said, my little John Deere 430 lawn mower (diesel) has a hand control for forward/reverse. Though "hate" is too strong of a word, I really, really, really dislike that thing. I'm on hills and sometimes, use my body to lean to change center of gravity.....I'm holding onto steering wheel, oh no, I can't because I need to go faster/slower or change direction.....so now, one hand on wheel, one hand off, leaning out to side.

I think I prefer the two pedal forward/reverse. My old riding mower, had the single paddle and "it worked" but for me and my years of habit, two pedals would be more natural.

But the hand control? Yeowza.... I look like a crazy man on this thing at times. My reflexes have my left foot reaching out to the (non existent) clutch pedal.... my right foot instinctively stabs to the controls that aren't there.... I'm holding the lever and change direction which lurches your body, further pushing lever in a direction so I'm near getting whiplash during all this.

So, people do what they have to do and maybe getting a hand control to work might work (??) but I'm not a fan of them.

(not arguing anything you said, just trying to provide some (hopefully slightly comic image) of what I've been through cause it really can get ME to giggle as I get bounced around.

I don't understand how people find the 2 pedal design hard to operate. If a person can drive an automatic in a car and almost everyone can, the two pedal in a tractor isn't really any different. The gas pedal foot goes to the brake easily.

I had a JD 2 pedal, now have 2 Kubotas. Definitely prefer Kubota. Suffered a serious injury on the Deere stepping on wrong pedal while mowing in a tight area needing a lot of forward/reverse work. I believe it’s how a person uses the pedal based on reading the comments here.

I don't understand how people find the 2 pedal design hard to operate. If a person can drive an automatic in a car and almost everyone can, the two pedal in a tractor isn't really any different. The gas pedal foot goes to the brake easily.
But in my Kioti, the pedals are backwards. Forward is on the left.
My riding mower is opposite (forward is on the right) . That's one reason many have issues. If the companies would standardize it would be easier for everyone.

The B26 has a well made rocker. Couldn’t think of issues and used yesterday while thinking of this thread. Maybe that’s the compliment that using is so intuitive you don’t have to think too hard. With a 6’ finish mower my wife can so precisely trim we don’t have to weedeat at all. Safety is paramount on our hilly farm. So impressed with B26 dexterity bought an M59 to maybe replace a shuttle shift M5030. Biggest concern was bush hogging with the HST turned out not being a problem. Both good tractors and after two years decided to keep the M59. The ease, visual, precision of loader work and capacity tipped the scales to the M59.

Both tractors HST suck trying to use the brakes to help turn. In the woods or other tight spot have to lock one brake using the parking brake to power turn. Fortunately given the ease at which you can go back and forth those times are limited. The L47 and maybe the M62 have moved the brakes to the left side and eliminated the clutch and turning brake problem.

Tried the two pedal system on a JD 110 TLB. It’s OK too. Not enough difference to prefer over the rocker pedals I’ve used.

Having equipment with the same style of transmission helps. Maybe even more so as we get older.

A motor vehicle isn't a fair comparison since you use the same pedal to go in either direction. The shift lever is what changes direction, not which pedal is pressed.

I have the treadle on the Craftsman riding mower and twin pedals on both the JD mower and LS tractor. To be honest, I never really thought about it. I get on whichever machine and do what needs doin' to make it go wherever. That said, I have also pressed the wrong pedal on the two pedal machines and gone in the wrong direction, though only a few inches and with no ill effects. When you think about it, doesn't it seem more intuitive to press the pedal forward to go forward and backwards to go backwards?
