I have developed an adult allergy to raw apples and raw cherries. I can still eat both cooked as in a pie etc. But no more raw apples or cherries for me. The old throat starts to close up and the hives and swelling starts. This is a fairly common adult onset allergy.

That sucks! I've got something like that but it's not as life threatening. It's "OAS"- Oral Allergy Syndrome. My mouth breaks out something fierce if I try to eat more than a small amount of fruit: tomatoes, which are a fruit, will instantly swell up my mouth. Body thinks it's being attacked.

Thankfully I can still eat tomatoes, and I really like them! I used to really love eating raw cherries in season, but I have to be satisfied with cherry pie now. Not a bad trade off. I will try a small piece of raw cherry or apple every once in a while, but no go. Even a small chunk causes the reaction now. This developed at about age 45 or so. Used to eat both with absolutely no problems.

The real question is what are you going to do about mowing it next time around.....

I was kind of wondering about that too... I guess it would be one way of finding out...

Started mowing last sunday 4 ft tall grass next to my shooting berm, made one pass and started sneezing and itching , didnt stop sneezing for 4 or 5 minutes. ran in the house and washed my face and arms took an allergy pill. 10 minutes later i was fine ,i put on a mask and went andcut for an hour with no more trouble. must have been some pollen or something.

As far as I know I have no allergic reactions to anything except the poison Ivy/oak/summac group. I have over the years lost a taste for some foods that I used to really like but not because of any reactions.

I thought for awhile I was developing a reaction to cashew nuts because for a while when I would eat them my lips would have a reaction as in blisters in my moth and on my lips. I wouldn't touch them for a long time, several years. Then I went back a few years later and ate a few of the dry roasted just to try. Didn't have the reaction. I gradually worked up to eating them more frequently and haven't had that again. May have been something about the brand we were buying at the time or the processing. You just never know.

OP hasn't posted all day, so hopefully just busy and not a relapse.

One thing about allergies especially if it is from pharmaceuticals etc...a reaction can be delayed by long periods of time...like several months...but normally in such cases the symptoms last longer than the OP described...

Well, that would be a bummer. I eat an apple almost everyday, as well as a banana, a couple oranges, any other fruit we have around including berries, cherries, etc..., a bowl of granola with nuts, a hard boiled egg, a handful of pistachios or peanuts, 4-5 glasses of milk, 3-8 cookies, a snack cake, 4 pieces of dark chocolate, 1 bottle of pop, small portion of whatever's leftover from dinner for lunch or a PBJ sandwich, a cup of yogurt, then dinner, meat (fish, chicken, pork or beef), potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, cauliflower or broccoli, and whatever else I can get my hands on.... I guess if I ever develop a food allergy to something specific, I have some backup plans.

This would be my guess as well, or stinging nettles, but the whole cycle from first exposure to all gone in less than 36 hours seems kinda quick. Let us know what your dermatologist says.

on edit: I appear to be a slow typist.
With nettles, if you have burdock you can take a burdock leaf, crush it up and then rub it on where the nettles hit you.

You want to rub it back and forth until your skin has a green tinge from the leaf. That makes the pain go away almost immediately.

I'm not at all surprised that it went away so quickly, especially with the help of steroids.

For some reason this year I have to wear a mask when I mow. If I don't, I get nasty coughing fits because pollen (?) gets my throat pissed off. I never had it this bad before.

Don't you find that it's hot? Years ago I was spreading grass seed coated with lime and tried to wear a mask because the lime was doing nasty things to my lungs. I ended up buying a painter's respirator because a basic dust mask was stifling.

Ok.... back with more craziness!
So I woke up Tuesday morning with 95% of the rash gone and feeling fine. Difference Tuesday was I cut mixed grass hay and some weeds today in the MF7495 and the Pottinger mower. Monday was M126X and field mower. Went to bed and woke up this morning covered in the rash again! Now one thing I need to mention was on Monday, I was given a prescription for 40mg of prednisone for 5 days. I also need to mention I called my dermatologist yesterday (Tuesday) and told her what happened. She told me NOT TO TAKE the oral steroid. She said the shot on Monday evening was more than enough especially since the rash cleared.
Ok, so this morning I wake up and Im covered in same places!!! . I called her and she now tells me in a video call to take the oral steroids. So I go to work today and it clears up.
WTF??? :confused2:
I feel perfectly fine now, rash 99% gone. 4 more days of steroid pills to go.

Obviously, it is still in your system and something is adding to it. How is that for internet help? lol.

While you are at it, with the first reaction, talk with your Doctors about using an EpiPen, or keep one on standby somewhere. Get some real medical advice on that.

That reaction....was pretty bad...and now that your on prescriptions and having a flair up...well...maybe go get some testing done. You might have just reached your point in life where what was tolerable before...is no longer the case.

Agree with what your saying, but the flare up occurred Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, when I didn’t take the prednisone (as instructed by the real doctor, my dermatologist). When I took it later on Wednesday morning, the flare up disappeared in a few hours.
I think my dermatologist kind of screwed up by telling me not to take the prednisone.
I’m clear this morning, so we will see what happens.

Had em when I was a kid. It was horrible. Apparently they went away after puberty.

The peanut is deadly poison to me. I have had that particular allergy since birth. Every few years I test it, and it hasn't gone away.
