If the OP is using a cabbed tractor and he has a mouse problem, maybe he is allergic to rodents and what they leave behind. The symptoms are similar.

That's the one that scares me a bit when my kids would have friends over. One kid on the cross country team had it. His mom was there constantly watching his every move at every event and practice. One speck of peanut and he could be dead. You could see that it wore on his mom quite a bit.

Oh man. Reading that reminded me of a tragedy up at summer camp: 13 yo girl tasted peanut butter in her campfire s'mores and spit it out. Died in a few minutes in the arms of her physician father.

Me too. I think I'd die if I couldn't eat peanut butter and nuts of all kinds.

I feel for anyone who has it.

I can eat everything except the peanut. Hazelnuts have started giving a slight reaction in recent years. So I have started avoiding them. But nothing like the peanut. I don't even like to be around someone eating peanuts or peanut butter. Probably a psychosomatic reaction by remembering the smell and the intense sickness if you actually ingest some. My folks gave me some peanuts when I was 5.. About done me in. I still remember the incident 60 years later. I have tried many times by ingesting a small amount every few years. If I ever wanted to commit suicide, a handful of peanuts should do it.

I would advise anyone to NEVER put peanut butter or peanuts into any thing that is a communal "potluck" or "church social" or Christmas giveaway cookies brought to work or whatever. Just don't do it. The peanut allergy is the most deadly allergy next to the shellfish allergy that I know of, and more than just me have it. I don't know what the percentage of the population is that has it, but it is more than you might think. I make it a habit to not eat communal food if there is any chance of a peanut hiding there. Many people put peanuts in the weirdest things thinking "they are good and good for you". And they are deadly toxin for a percentage of the population. But ignorant people still do it, and still poison people. The next time you have the urge to bake a batch of peanut butter cookies, think "I am making deadly poison items for someone". You don't know who is silly enough to eat them. Especially children that may not know and may not understand what they are doing. When I see a cookie, I assume it contains the poison and avoid it. Unless it is a store bought brand I can identify as non poisonous. I have learned the hard way not to accept gifts from well meaning but ignorant to my condition people.

I have been poisoned by my asking "does it contain any peanuts?" And they answer no. Then they have forgotten to tell you it contains peanut butter. Yes, that really has happened to me. Best thing is to never offer me a home made cookie, and then I won't have to refuse it and hurt your feelings.

On the steroids, prednisone in particular. I would guess I have had poison ivy maybe as many as 30 to 50 times, most of these very minor. I’ve had a few bad ones and they give you a shot and the pills where you take fewer every day for a week. The was from a regular doctor. I started going to a dermatologist just because he was closer and he said regular doctors over use the prednisone, especially the shot. He said the shot is pretty strong and sticks with a long time. We have all heard the long term side affects of steroids. He just started giving me pills and a lot less of them. The lower dose was just as effective.

I’m guessing this is why the dermatologist said stop taking the pills, the shot should have been enough and should help for several days. For whatever reason that didn’t work out. For whatever it’s worth when I got the hives bad it reoccurred maybe three times in 5 days, has never happened to me again.

You may never know. About 30 years ago I was driving back home after working on a cottage I was building when I noticed some itchy red bumps on my right wrist. I figured it was just some irritation from fiberglass insulation so washed thoroughly when I got back but by then similar bumps were spreading up both arms, itching like mad. I’d had hives so bad they even sprouted inside my mouth as a little kid so tried not to scratch those areas, but they kept growing and itching.

I soon had red itchy welts on every part of my body except my face & privates. The family doc tried high doses of Benadryl + had me rub baby lotion all over but it didn’t help. After a couple months I finally got in to see a dermatologist and he took one look at it and said “Well, let’s tackle your problem first and THEN we’ll we’ll try to figure out what caused it!” He gave me a shot + pills of prednisone and I finally had relief.

He tried to get an allergic reaction on my skin with various substances such as wood preservatives, insulation, all kinds of things but never figured out what caused it. That’s exactly the same outcome I had with those hives as a little tyke; they finally just quit.

The peanut is deadly poison to me. I have had that particular allergy since birth. Every few years I test it, and it hasn't gone away.
