Exactly! I really can't understand all the fuss around connecting a PTO shaft.

Also, these quick connect PTO will extend the PTO shaft further out, which is no good for the internals on the tractor. Same applies on the PTO extensions.
That is exactly my thought, really all the contraption does, is move everything further away from the tractor and that does make it easier to connect, but at what cost?

Like Rick said, learn how to use the factory connection in the first place, and spray everything down with WD40 or the like, every time you connect it....don't worry, your hands will wash when you are done! lol

If your tractor has a two speed PTO with a neutral postition, the neutral position will let the PTO stub on the tractor turn easily. That makes it easy to line up the splines when you are attaching an implement that takes a lot of effort to turn the PTO shaft, like a chipper with a heavy flywheel.

Also, the PTO shafts with the locking collar that you pull back are more difficult to get on the tractor than the ones with the button. Both kinds need to be lubed to work easily.

Speaking of lube, regular grease on the PTO shaft slip joint can make the shaft somewhat difficult to pull out by hand as you're attaching it. You can use a lighter lube there.

I am relatively "new" to pto connection having done it only 15-20 times. I believe I have failed every single time. I mean eventually it goes on but not without a lot of cussing and other antics. I only wish I didn't know what all the fuss is about. Put me in the camp of a "pto wrestler" where the problem certainly exists here. I've even had people show me and when i do what I just saw what they did...same problem.

I am terrible about it. I don't know the "secret" of making this connection easier but I align teeth, pull the collar, push the shaft on, push, pull, gets stuck, try all over again, fail once more, on and on, eventually punching the shaft, implement and tractor.
I'd be a contender for such a tool as this because I don't know what I'm doing wrong otherwise to have such a tough time connecting any pto shaft. Although not "uncoordinated" in the least (well I am maybe about tieing a stupid johnny on), I am inflicted with PTOitis.

Get over your anger and frustration. The benefits to that extend far beyond tractor use. Pay more attention to what you have been told and shown. Think how you will feel after spending several hundred dollars and still fighting with PTO shafts. There is no guarantee this joke will be easier than a system that has been around for almost a century.

I like the old push button type best. I welded a 1/4" flat washer on one of my buttons and it makes it easier to push. I have arthritis in my right thumb. For some reason I still fight with getting the splines to line up and start half the time but that happens before I need to push the release button. Not planning to spend a bunch of money to make it happen any easier though.

Incredible. I got guys telling me not to worry about getting my hands dirty after being a logger for 30 years. I got one guy offering psychological advice and "pay attention" as if I'm not laser beamed focused on someone doing something I have trouble with. All I care about is getting a PTO to hook up with the ease like the rest of the experts.

It seems perhaps the key is a lot of lube. Even when my brush hog was new and had some grease on it from the factory, I still had trouble. I'll spray the crap out of it ands see how that works.

Now if anyone uses a "method" (beyond getting it super slippery) of getting a PTO hook up to be easier, let me know please but save the psyche stuff for yourself.

Someone mention grease the PTO connection, and another mentioned use a lighter lube. Personally use what ever lube you like wether oil based (even motor oil) fluid or grease.
What no one, at least that I have seen, has said is to clean those joints.
We typically use PTO operated implements is dirty environments! If dirt has collected on you, it has collected on any lubed surfaces exposed to light. (If it is not sealed, dirt has gotten to it!) Even oil lubes can get gunk build up with contaminates. The easiest time to clean it is when you disconnect the PTO!
Now for the shaft inner and outer portions. They should be lubed as well. Again use the lube of your choice! These should also in my opinion be cleaned as dirt will find its way to places you can not imagine! One big caution here is a thick lube (not referring to how applied but consistency) will run a great chance of solidifying as it ages (cold will make it worse!). Again this need to slide freely both during operation/transport of the implement and even more so during connection! Nothing worse than be in confined spaces and trying to align splines, hold a spring load release open and fighting a shaft that doesn’t slide freely!
One piece of advice for all you PTO shafts. If not using weekly, select dates of the month (I suggest the 1st and the 15th) add an alert to your phone if needed, and check the free slide of PTO shafts. If they do not slide freely, make plans to clean and lube it! One of 2 things has happened! 1)lube has harden or 2)surface rust has frozen it together.

Direct and on point. Appreciated.

Get an overrunning clutch. Makes aligning pto teeth a breeze. And pretty inexpensive. Helps protect tractor also

YEP- Also why a tool box is nice to have on a tractor, Much more useful than a PTO aligner, few wrenches grease, spray lube, rags, spare pins etc.

Along with cleaning off the caked up grease & dirt occasionally and re-lubing, try using a bunge cord or rubber tarp strap to help support the weight of the PTO shaft as you wrangle it onto the tractor‘s stub. Loop the strap around the top link and PTO shaft. Play with the length of the strap to find the sweet spot of support. Works for me.
