I never had issues hooking up a PTO until I got a bush hog recently. The way the 3-pt framing is setup on the bush hog, there is no room to get close to the PTO area on the tractor. I am thinking about removing the cup/shield from the tractor end of the PTO shaft so I get better visibility.

Ah so. It is the only implement (bush hog) I have that uses a PTO hook up. I'm thinking the Quick Hitch I have on the 3 pt is not helping matters.

For me and my fat belly, I have found if I lower the QH/mower all the way down, that makes the easiest reach/most access for me. If the QH is up, then I really struggle, but I'm short and fat.

If you get close to the mower you should be able to hook the pto shaft up first then back up to the mower and hook it up..........might give you a little more wiggle room....

I'll give anything a shot. This is a relatively new implement which I thought should be easier but from this discussion, I guess they need their own "break-in". Sort of like shoes.

Hooking up my tiller is always a barrel of laughs.

But I don't fall for clickbait gizmos.

Incredible. I got guys telling me not to worry about getting my hands dirty after being a logger for 30 years. I got one guy offering psychological advice and "pay attention" as if I'm not laser beamed focused on someone doing something I have trouble with. All I care about is getting a PTO to hook up with the ease like the rest of the experts.

It seems perhaps the key is a lot of lube. Even when my brush hog was new and had some grease on it from the factory, I still had trouble. I'll spray the crap out of it ands see how that works.

Now if anyone uses a "method" (beyond getting it super slippery) of getting a PTO hook up to be easier, let me know please but save the psyche stuff for yourself.

Will the guard tilt up out of the way? I don't know if they all do or not. I didn't realize mine did and fought it like crazy. I bumped it out of the way one day and folded it up all the way. It was easy after that as there was room to get both hands in there at the correct angles. I don't know if this helps or not but it was my problem.

Oh, you said "clickbait". When younger, I was a fan for what I thought you said when I first read it. The "clickbaits" are like $400.

Get an overrunning clutch. Makes aligning pto teeth a breeze. And pretty inexpensive. Helps protect tractor also

Only time I use one is if the implement don't have one built in and in my case the only one is my bat wing chopper. The issue with an over running clutch is, it also lengthens the driveline just like the 'gizmo's' do and screws with the alignment of the pto shaft. I have a 2 speed pto (switch shafts) and I use my 1000 21 spline shaft with a 21-6 adapter on it but I use a clamp on adapter and only when running a grain leg. No point in winding the motor up for a light torque application.

Also... SOP for me is a pto shaft cover and I keep my pto shaft (tractor) covered with the cover when not in use and the cover has a couple shots of grease in it.
