I manged to get 3 more logs out this afternoon, it was rough going, made bunch of mistakes or I call it human error. First mistake I didn;t pay attention backing up so I backed up on a big stump with dif lock in, wish I had power down 3-point hitch, I didn't know what to do, founately half my brain was working and I see the tree wedge scarf sitting there so jammed that under the tire and it was just enough to pull off the stump. Next mistake, I'm still upset about that so I wont go into detail of fixing winch sprocket chain.

I'm wondering what it takes to break a winch chain - maybe some day you'll be able to tell us. Your like me. Something happens and all of a sudden you have to learn about something new, like chain, and you find out that you don't understand all you know about it.

Your bridge project is interesting to me because I am hoping to do a smaller version before winter. Looks like your getting some pretty good logs out for it.

Well in the first place one has to 3 bricks shy of a load, or if the tractor stalls go see what the ------- log is caught on instead of just giving it more throttle, in this case a 3" hemlock limb on a 6" tree. Some days I feel like Forest Gump has more smarts then me.

16's are 3-1/4. Almost anyone who practices can learn to back up a 4 wheel wagon.

When I was a kid, the farmers would hook up a wagon and tell you to do it, you struggled until you got it and each time you got better and better.

I speak in tongues enough now, I'll stay with the single axle trailer theology thankyou very much......................

It's always good to go check but some times you can pull things free with a little more oomph. You shouldn't be that hard on yourself. If the chain broke instead of the clutch slipping or the tractor lurching then it was just ready to break and it would have broken on a couple hard pulls down the line. Now you have it taken care of early.

This would be a good place for a sermon for unknowing others about pulling trees down on top of you by doing that. That is the hooked vertical tree breaks and gets pulled down at lightning speed directly at the tractor.

This is the camp I'm in too, that chain just shouldn't have been that weak...

I use motorcycle chain spray on mine it's never been replaced and it will still stall my tractor before breaking.

Personally, I'd replace yours with a "high quality" chain...

I'm not sure how other pto winches are but Fransgard is just a simple pressure plate cam activated, the clutch pad hardy ever slips and usually just breaks the cable, amazing how much pull I get on such a simple design. There is one way to make the clutch slip though, over grease the roller chain, I had to tare it all apart one time because I did that.
