Is a subsoiler handy?

I use a 1" 90 degree sweep schedule 80 elbow from any big box hardware store held on with pipe clamps to feed the wire/cable. It helps to have one person drive the tractor while a helper feeds the wire/cable. I've use a middle buster without the furrow buster attached. I get about 4 to 6" depth. I would think a subsoiler would go several inches deeper.

I welded a piece of angle on mine and then put a two inch piece of conduit in it lay some pex it worked out alright for a first effort, ended up about 14 inches deep and 90 feet long.

Make multiple passes then lay in cable, that way large roots are already broken

that's what I did I made about 3 passes and then put the pipe in. I did dig a starter hole on the entrance and exit points.

Some people use this to install "invisible" fence wire. If you have a QH maybe you can figure out a way to pull it with tractor.

This is more commonly called a sod cutter in part of the country! While it could easily be used to place the small wire for a signal wire for a collared receiver for a fence, I would hate to do 150’ 6” plus deep with one. And trying to attach to your tractor would most likely destroy it in short order!

While many have had good experienced laying pipe and cables with a subsoiler. There are many videos on youTube doing just that. I have never tried this
My subsoiler is a combo unit of a subsoiler and middle buster. I have used mine setup as a middle buster to dig trenches to lay water lines, drain lines, conduit, and direct burial electric lines. One caution,if you will, if you dig a trench with either a subsoiler or a middle buster you will need to fill in the trench.
The concept truly behind the subsoiler is to create a slice to the sub layers at least 2x the depth you plan to go for drainage. While multiple passes may be needed to drain a standing water spot, they are typically done spaced apart.
Again I have never tried to dig a trench with mine setup as a subsoiler, so not sure how well that works.
To further explain my subsoiler is about a 2” blade while the middle buster uses a double sided plow type blade. I have a couple of different width plows for mine.

You are going to make a big mess out of your yard with that! I use a sub here every fall-----36 inches deep and it does a number on the ground like they are designed to do. IF you only going 6 inches deep you would do less damage by using a 20 inch diameter straight cutter with a narrow tube behind it to feed the wire down. ---I used to have one just for that purpose and the guy I sold it too used it for many years.

I have a cable that I need to bury in front yard, from house out to satellite dish. Cable only needs to be buried 6" deep, about 150 ft.
Would a subsoiler work ok, I don't want to mess up the lawn more than I have to or a better attachment?
Also a couple trees in the area I'd hate to damage root system.
Thanks.

We had cable installed here a few years ago and the installer used a machine similar to a Ventrac with a subsoiler and with a elbowed tube as others have described. He drove slowly as his assistant fed the cable into the tube. He buried the cable about 16" deep. No worries about any tilling or landscaping ever affecting it. I since tilled up and replanted my lawn s I am grateful that it was that deep. I think something like this 3 Point Subsoiler-Subsoiler Attachment | Agri Supply #7341 But you should be able to make your own cable burying gizmo.

I just buried 200’ of 1” water line, without the proper blade it makes a mess, i have a 3 pt subsoiler i guess its called, i removed the blade, got a piece of 1 1/2 x 1/4 flat steel and bolted that on for the cutter head, it worked., took 3 passes, with extra weight to get the 3 point down as far as it would go, it was close to 12”. which i was happy with anything over 6”.

I'm not sure what a 20 inch diameter straight cutter is. Tractor supply has a sub soiler like this. Maybe with bottom plate off it wouldn't make a mess in front yard.
It's for dish antenna. It was on one chimney but oak tree getting so big blocking signal.
They were going to install in middle of yard!
First choice was other chimney which they don't do any more (?). Second was on my power pole which they don't do, so third was 60" away from pole, so I can mow around it, and it's not too visible.
I don't like how they spliced cable...but that's me (I'd use heat shrink tubing that has silicon in it over splices). 20200609_161326.jpg20200609_161648.jpg20200609_161717.jpg20200609_161729.jpg

If you allow the subsoiler to go deeper, the plate wont make any difference. The shank will be the only thing cutting your lawn. Here is a video you might want to watch. YouTube He runs wire out to his well pump.

Get some self vulcanizing tape and wrap it up, trust me, if you clean it really well, wrap it tight, you will never have an issue with moisture or corrosion.

I'm assuming you can remove the blade on a subsoiler and put on a middle buster.
